Old
Post Office
The Old Post Office is a large residential Grade II listed six bedroom period property believed to be one of the oldest in the village of Shorne originally dating back to circa 1590. Located in the centre of the popular village it is understood to have originally been two properties and may have potential for reinstatement to the previous configuration, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable. Listed Building Consent has been granted for two additional bathrooms, both being en-suite’s, as well as updating the family bathroom, and removal of cement render and works to the front of the property. Although the building could benefit with some improvements, it does have gas heating. There are plentiful period features with many “nooks and crannies” in the rooms upstairs which you can get to via two separate staircases.
Outside there is a spacious garden to the rear and various stores and unlike most period houses, this property not only has off-road parking but also your very own garage to keep the car safe and sound. The property forms part of the history of this village. We are advised that it was the local Post Office that Charles Dickens was purported to buy his quills from and post some of his manuscripts, hence it’s Listed Building Status. We are also informed it has been the village bakery and a florist in its time but for many years it has been a family home. Quirky and full of character throughout, the accommodation goes on and on and any future custodian should be able to make slight alterations to suit their wishes and will offer you your very own chance to own an historic and pivotal part of this beautiful village.
This vacant possession home is now looking for a new owner that will now refresh its interior and is sure to suit an array of buyers, including someone looking to pursue its development potential, growing families or those from London looking for an ‘escape to the country’ and a ‘get away from it all’ experience and yet is still conveniently located for road and rail links into central London.
Shorne has a typical Kent village feel with its historic church, friendly local shops and, of course, the friendly characterful pubs ideal for a quiet pint or a bite eat. But not many villages boast their own country park. Shorne with its locality to the A2/M2 enjoys easy access to Ebbsfleet International rail station and Bluewater Shopping Centre and the motorway network for journeys to London, M25 or the Kent coast.
Seller Insight
When we saw this property we fell in love with it straight away. We believe it was built in the late 1500’s and has, at one time, been both a bakery and a florist but when we bought it, it was the Old Post Office. We loved the history and quirkiness of the building and that it was right in the centre of the village and within a very short walking distance of Shorne Primary school. We now have an amazing coffee shop, hair & beauty salon, GP Surgery and a village shop just a short walk away. Theres lots of open countryside and Shorne Country Park is just a quick walk through Shorne woods along the road and are great places for any children to explore or if you have dogs. This is a beautiful house and we have loved living here. We very much hope that the next family will love it just as much as we do.”*
