MARSTAN HOUSE FARM

MARSTAN HOUSE FARM

Situated in an attractive rural location, just ten miles from the bustling town of Northampton is Marstan House Farm, a lovely five-bedroom detached family home that sits in around two acres of gardens and grounds.

“The house is lovely, but it was the land that originally sold the property to me,” says the owner. “I have a couple of horses and a couple of donkeys, and I ran out of space at my old house. I’d looked for a new place for some time, but struggled to find anywhere that fitted the bill, then I came across Marstan House Farm and for me it ticked all the boxes.”

“Here I have a large field and a lovely big garden that overlooks nothing but rolling farmland, so I get the feeling of being miles from anywhere, but in reality everything I need is close at hand. During my time here I’ve put a new fence up right the way around the property and I’ve built a large chicken coup in which I’ve been able to keep well over one hundred birds, and that’s the real beauty of a place like this, you can do just about anything. There’s space to grow vegetables, room to keep animals and it’s a fantastic place for children to explore and enjoy. I also have a large south-facing patio that overlooks the garden and field beyond and that’s a lovely place for sitting out, relaxing and enjoying that stunning view.”

“The house itself was built c1950, but over time it has been extended and modernised and it’s now a lovely big family home. The rooms are all very spacious and there are lots of them so it’s a great house for family life and entertaining. It’s lovely as it is but I’ve always viewed it as a house with lots of potential. The layout could be altered, there’s plenty of space for extending the building – subject to planning, of course – and at one point I actually looked into converting one section into a B&B or holiday lets, it’s that big. The property as a whole has bags of potential.”

One of my favourite rooms has to be the main bedroom. It’s incredibly spacious, very light and bright, and it has a door that leads straight out onto the large balcony.”

The outlook from the house and grounds gives you the feeling of being miles from anywhere. However, there’s an array of lovely little villages close by and the property is equidistant between Kettering and Northampton so it’s actually a really convenient place to live.”

As you come into the driveway there’s a huge brick-built carport. Again, subject to gaining the correct permissions, I’ve always thought that that building could be turned into anything from a home office to a gym.”

“It’s the space, both inside and out that I’ll miss,” says the owner. “I’ll also miss the fact that I can look out and not see another house, it’s just leafy and green for as far as the eye can see. It’s been a stunning place to live for the past five years.”
