THE SPINNEY

Hidden away at the end of a private driveway is a stunning dream home enveloped by mesmerising gardens, ancient woodland and views of a golf course that create a serene sanctuary that feels like you’re in your own enchanted world.

But The Spinney is also a place for the best BBQs and parties too, with an abundance of terraces and patios to host family and friends including a bright pink pergola and a massive house-hugging terrace Plus, the beautiful grounds also contain a separate garden room and detached one-bed annexe as extra places for guests to stay when the party eventually subsides.

Inside, the house has been thoughtfully lavished with love, luxury and imagination during a six-month renovation project that has created a fabulous family home with perfect flow through substantial and sociable open-plan spaces.

The grand central hall leads to a dining room that has hosted memorable family meals, dinner parties bursting with laughter and chat, and the most wonderful of Christmas dinners.

A sizable open doorway leads to a truly breathtaking orangery, dripping with plants and bathed in cascading light while boasting a trio of French doors opening out into the rear garden.

The kitchen is a high-end masterpiece with an integrated island unit breakfast bar so the cook never gets lonely with this space then leading to a playroom, which could also become a fabulous home office, a utility room, cloakroom and then the lounge.

Although a substantial space, the lounge has a cosy and intimate ambience, with masses of comfy seating clustered around a log burner and dual access to different parts of the garden via two sets of bifold doors.

Upstairs, as well as a bonus balcony off the impressive gallery landing, there are five double bedrooms to explore, a luxury family bathroom and a magnificent principal suite that boasts a sizeable walk-in wardrobe dressing room and a high-end ensuite with the most spectacular of walk-in, bespoke showers.

The Spinney is tucked away on the very edge of the popular Vale of Glamorgan village of Dinas Powys, easily commutable to Cardiff city centre for work, hours of shopping, and a myriad of places to meet and eat with family and friends.

This welcoming home is also close to the famous heritage coast and its mix of sandy beaches and ancient, Jurassic cliffs tempting you to enjoy multiple, memorable days out by the water.

Dina Powys, easily walkable from the house, is a thriving and friendly community that the current owners have enjoyed being part of for the last 13 years, socialising at The Humble Onion French restaurant and at The One O’clock Gate at the golf club, which does tasty Korean street food, burgers, and healthy raw food.

The owner says there are lots of classes running at the church hall, including Pilates, yoga, and dance, plus the village common is a popular place for kicking a ball and having fun at the playground.”

Heading further afield is easy via the M4 to the north and Cardiff’s busy mainline train station, but staying cocooned within this tranquil landscape and enjoying living in this gorgeous house is by far the preferable option, but when you do have to travel outside its gates, it will forever be an absolute dream property to come home to.

STEP INSIDE

Step inside

The Spinney and the beautiful home instantly welcomes you with cascades of light and a feeling of space, all wrapped in a cloak of natural materials and neutral colours.

The hall is grand and impressive, large enough to host bookcases to create a library but intimate enough to embrace you with an inviting and peaceful ambience that wafts through the whole house.

From the hall there are three ways to explore this incredible abode, and wander through the open doorway nestled within the bookcases to the left to be greeted by a fabulous dining room that’s a hub for entertaining, having hosted wonderful family meals, dinner parties and the best Christmas day lunches.

The current owners spent six months renovating The Spinney to create a home that can be a vibrant social space as well as a place to find peace and serenity, with open–plan, connected rooms that flow effortlessly and seamlessly together as well as spaces that provide a more intimate atmosphere.

It’s a luxurious dream home but incredibly welcoming and warm, with nature informing the interior design showcasing an abundance of natural materials and tactile textures, plenty of plants and a palette of colours that reflect the tones of the home’s most glorious of garden settings.

The dining room seamlessly flows into the orangery via a large open doorway and it’s an enchanting space that truly connects with the magical land that envelopes the home.

Sunlight streams through the massive roof lantern to create a truly uplifting atmosphere, offering a skyscape of chasing clouds against a mesmerising blue sky. A trio of French doors open directly out onto a patio with ancient woodland as a backdrop and cloaked in foliage, which is found in abundance inside the orangery too.

It’s the most serene of spaces, the most connected to nature, the place to visit to relax with a morning coffee, immerse yourself in a magazine or good book, and enjoy an evening drink with all the doors flung open to be accompanied by birdsong and sweet-scented summer breezes.

But it’s also another space that can host social gatherings, sinking into a squishy sofa while chatting with family and friends and feeling surrounded by nature, whatever the weather.

The perfect flow of this property continues with a large double doorway connecting the orangery to the sizable luxury kitchen next door.

It’s another space designed for gathering together, with the island unit offering a place for people to park themselves at the integrated breakfast bar and join the cook as they create a feast in this well-equipped kitchen. It’s the heart of the home that has been the centre of so many happy family

memories, framed by an absorbing woodland view as a constant and welcome companion via a wall of windows.

When feasting is complete, the cosy cocoon of the lounge awaits through an open hallway which also offers access to a cloakroom, utility room and playroom that could become a home office or cinema room.

The lounge is the largest of the reception rooms yet, due to thoughtful interior design, it also feels the most intimate with deep, moody blue walls mixed with tactile natural textures, joined by the most comfortable of substantial sofas clustered around the robust log burner.

But it’s not just a space for getting cosy by the fire on a chilly winter evening, it’s a room to welcome you any time of the year boasting substantial glass doors out to the garden in two directions - to the massive front terrace with huge views to match or the cosier patio at the rear of the house.

Up the impressive staircase and the gallery landing, with its own balcony looking out over the grounds, crowns the grandness of this central space as well as providing a light-flooded journey to five bedrooms.

Each bedroom is a double and each can boast its own mesmerising views of the surrounding landscape, but it’s the principal bedroom suite that is truly magnificent.

Occupying the whole east wing of the house, the bedroom is a serene sanctuary to cloak you in peace and the perfect place to easily induce sleep.

Along a private corridor is a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room, currently being used as a child’s bedroom, that provides all the storage needed, hiding clutter so the serene ambience keeps on flowing.

Stepping into the principal bedroom’s ensuite is like arriving at a luxury boutique hotel and features a spectacular, bespoke, fully tiled walk-in shower that includes a seating area. Its thoughtful design creates an enchanting space, it feels like you are stepping into your own rainfall cocoon, washing the day’s stress away or banishing sleepiness at the start of each day.

The Spinney is a home that has family and friends at the core but can offer secret spaces and quiet hideaways too, and it’s a home that can easily morph itself into whatever is desired.

The current owner says: “There’s not one room that we don’t use and best of all, they’re multifunctional and we regularly change things about to suit our needs at that time. We genuinely have absolutely adored The Spinney and its grounds; it’s looked after us and we’re so excited for a new family to move in and take over as guardians of this beautiful place”.

SELLER INSIGHT

It was all about the setting for us when we first saw The Spinney just over 13 years ago. It’s a very private property with wonderful grounds and I immediately felt safe. That feeling has remained with us for the entire time we have lived here and we’ve never felt isolated as we have great neighbours and a friendly community in the village,” say the owners.

“Dinas has a really good up and coming food scene. The Humble Onion does the most incredible French cuisine, and then we’ve got probably the tastiest restaurant I’ve ever been to in the golf club called The One O’clock Gate which does Korean street food, burgers, and healthy raw food. It’s unbelievably tasty and is just a short walk for us over the golf course. There are loads of classes in the church hall, including Pilates, yoga, and dance, and we often head down to the Common where we kick a ball around and play in the playground.”

“The Spinney is perfect for entertaining. We’ve had some amazing Easter Egg hunts in the garden, as well as Halloween parties, naming ceremonies, birthday celebrations for friends and family, and we even hosted our wedding here too. There’s something quite powerful about the land that makes life that little bit magical. We’re fully enclosed by forest and the golf course, so it feels like we’re enveloped in a huge green hug!”

“The orangery is a fabulous room filled with natural light where we like to relax, read, and listen to music, whilst the kitchen is the heart of the home where we cook and catch up around the island. The dining table has been the scene of many Christmas dinners before we all head into the living room with the centrepiece fireplace. It’s so lovely to snuggle by the fire and look out at the evergreen trees. I also really love my bedroom as it’s light and airy and I wake up to the views of sky and greenery.”

“We lived in the property for a couple of years before moving out for 6 months whilst renovations took place. We wanted to optimise the space and how we used it which has worked brilliantly for us; there’s not one room that we don’t use and best of all, they’re multi-functional and we regularly change things about to suit our needs at that time. We genuinely have absolutely adored The Spinney and its grounds; it’s looked after us and we’re so excited for a new family to move in and take over as guardians of this beautiful place.”*

STEP OUTSIDE

Step outside into a truly idyllic garden that fully envelopes the house with a calm and serene ambience. The home is found at the end of a private lane, and the garden continues that feeling of being secluded within your own private island of tranquillity, surrounded by layers of foliage and absorbing views of neighbouring ancient woodland and a distant golf course.

Wander through the towering mature trees and meander across the lawns to discover a campfire area and inviting outdoor swing daybed, and it’s hard to believe you’re actually located on the edge of a popular village near a major city; it feels like you are in a peaceful, rural location.

Summer evenings are spent relaxing on the daybed, watching day turn to night, and stargazing until you fall asleep, and the campfire is eternally a magnet for gathering, chatting and toasting marshmallows.

An uplifting stroll through this most special of gardens makes your soul sing, surrounded by glorious nature and offering plenty of places to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the truly stunning scenery.

There are a myriad of quiet corners and secret spots to seek out and get comfortable with a good book, a garden tree swing that is a popular feature with everyone, and a number of sun-drenched deck areas offering a front row seat to relax on a lounger and enjoy the views.

The decks are also well-placed and well-designed to be hubs to gather for enjoying alfresco dining experiences because it’s not just a garden that effortlessly invites peaceful contemplation and relaxation - it’s a garden that is a place to party too.

From summer family BBQs on the terrace that hugs the house to large social gatherings that effortlessly roll way into the night and all over the land, this garden can host it all and was even the most beautiful of settings for the current owners’ wedding, with ample parking to welcome all the guests.

There is masses of space for children to run around, kick a ball, explore and play the most awesome games of hide and seek, creating the most wonderful of lifelong memories, plus perfect places to work the land and grow your own produce.

But this spectacular garden offers a few surprises too, including a bright pink circular pergola with a seating area that’s a becon for the best place for sharing a daytime meal or an evening cocktail with friends. There’s also a garden room with sleeping area, tucked away around the back of the house that is understandably popular with guests, especially its own cute terrace.

But that’s not the only bonus building offering options at The Spinney, there’s also a two-storey annexe that brings a layer of practicality to this most pretty of gardens.

Currently this separate garden cottage offers a bedroom on the first floor and a large playroom on the ground floor, including a kitchen and two WC facilities, making it perfect for indoor parties too.

As all facilities are already in place, the annexe is the perfect answer to providing multi-generational living, and who wouldn’t be absolutely thrilled to call this most enchanting of locations and fabulous of properties their home?
