Great Mount Cottage has been a much loved family home and the owners, Tony and Sheila, recall how thirty three years ago they felt it would make the ideal home and location for their family. In a private, peaceful location and with stunning grounds, the house has easy access to local rail stations, the M25 and nearby Dartford. They knew it would give them the best of town and country living.

Tony explains that when they bought the house it was a small gardener’s cottage, but they saw its huge potential, and working to the highest standards, they extended the property to create a modern, spacious, and attractive home. It took eighteen months to complete the work and they didn’t move in until it was finished. Three years ago, they installed a large, well equipped, streamlined kitchen and a log burner in the main lounge.

The conservatory is part of the extension and is where you can really appreciate the beauty of the grounds. Sheila says she loves this very restful room which invites the garden into the house; it is the perfect place to settle for quiet downtime. They decided to make the kitchen and dining room open plan to ensure easy entertaining: and as they now have a large extended family it was an excellent decision. It is the sociable hub of the home where everyone can find a space and still chat to the cook.

The lounge is a spacious area, and the added beams add atmosphere, in keeping with the property: and with the flames from the log burner flickering across them, creating a warm glow, the room becomes a great winter refuge. Great Mount Cottage is a hospitable home and has been perfect for entertaining family and friends.

The easy maintenance garden is a wow factor in this special home, and Tony explains that some years ago he was able to purchase the seven acres of woodland behind the house. It has ensured the continued privacy of the property but also gives constant pleasure as you have endless dog walks from the garden, plus the pleasure of watching the changing seasons, the wide variety of birds and wild life that also enjoy the grounds. It is a peaceful oasis.

There is a small paddock to the rear of the property with two loose boxes and tack room, adding to the assets Great Mount Cottage has to offer.

It is a fifteen minute walk into Hextable village which has a primary school, post office, shops for everyday needs and activities centred round the community centre. Swanley with its sixty acres of parkland is only two miles away, whilst nearby Blue Water and Dartford are perfect for shopping and leisure. Tony and Sheila have loved the house and the area and are sad the time has come to downsize but take away many very happy memories.*
