Hello! I’m Julie and I live in Vancouver where I throw lots of dinner parties, teach cooking classes and dream endlessly about food. Cooking is one of the great joys of my life. Thankfully it is my job as well. Way back in 1997, I graduated from the professional culinary program at the Dubrulle Culinary Institute in Vancouver and worked in restaurants around the city. After a few years I realized I wasn’t really cut out for the demanding life of a restaurant cook and left to find a new way to combine my passion for food, wine and people that also left some time for my family and friends. I started doing cooking classes in people’s homes and then added culinarytours to the mix. Kitchen Culinaire was born in 2008 and has been slowly evolving ever since. My main focus is in inspiring people to get in the kitchen and cook for themselves and the people they love. I care deeply about helping people create a sense of community through food, one recipe at a time. In becoming an extension of the classes and culinary tours, this blog has pushed me to become a better cook and introduced me to amazing people from around the world.
ITINERARY This food-‐c entric itinerary is designed to showcase the magic of this region. For eight days, search out the freshest seasonal ingredients at local markets and visit the shops of artisanal bakers, butchers and cheese mongers in n earby towns and villages. Learning to make orecchiette by hand, foraging for wild edibles, picnicking in olive groves, visiting local cheese makers are a few examples o f what you may do.It’s not only about the food. We will also have guided day trips to neighbouring towns of Altamura, Gravina and Matera to visit museums, art exhibitions and do walking tours of historical districts.
