Your invitation to the sustainability event of the year for the UK tertiary education sector Our 2013 Conference will be hosted at the East Midlands Conference Centre (EMCC) at the University of Nottingham. The University of Nottingham is committed to developing a sector-leading approach to sustainability. They have recently won the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2012. We look forward to working with Nottingham on the Conference and to showcasing some of its exemplary examples of best practice. Over the three Conference days, we will hear from three notable keynote speakers; Dr Joan Walley, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, Wyn Morgan, Director of Teaching and Learning at the University of Nottingham and Danny Chivers, Carbon footprint analyst, writer, and performance poet. Danny will be running our day 1 networking event featuring ‘slam poetry’ as well as the day 3 keynote. It is the inspiration and motivation from not only the sector but also out-of-the-sector organisations which gives us increased insight and motivation. More information on our speakers can be found at www.eauc.org.uk/keynote_ speakers.

With great Conference sessions, keynote speakers, networking events, an exhibition of like-minded companies offering products and services to support the sector and a student day, this unique event remains to be THE environmental and sustainability annual event for the tertiary education sector and is key in highlighting the sector’s successes on sustainability issues. Built by you, for you, please do join us! Regards Iain Patton, EAUC CEO

Sessions Conference streams We have maintained the well established Conference Steering Group (consisting of EAUC Members) and ensured that Conference sessions again reflect the needs of the sector and are tailored towards both the higher and further education sector. The sessions, based around the framework for Learning in Future Environments (LiFE), will follow the four main streams (see symbols right). Learn more about what they include at www.eauc.org.uk/ conference_steams Competency levels In addition to this we have introduced three competency levels for all sessions: “starting out” (new to the topic - basic level of knowledge), “on the road” (some experience of the area and looking to advance) and “more advanced” (competent but looking for new approaches).

Each stream will include facilitated interactive sessions with emphasis on delivering practical advice, sharing best practices, and aids for delivery of sustainable strategies, Leadership and projects, paths and challenges. Governance There will be plenty of opportunities for discussions, knowledge exchange, syndicate groups, panel discussions and Q&A, and facilitated networking events to help show the way ahead on the sustainability path for colleges and universities. Estates and Operations Sessions will showcase examples of best practice from and for the tertiary education sector and where possible give practical examples of how you can put them – or elements of them – into practice within your own institutions. Learning, Teaching and Tesearch

We are also drawing on the experience of Green Gown Award finalists and winners and hope that their inspiration will encourage you to replicate their outstanding initiatives within your own institutions. Partnerships and Engagement

Programme

Networking opportunities Exhibition

Keeping you up-to-date with products and services supporting the sector, the 1 ½ day exhibition will showcase over 45 companies and charities wishing to share their sustainability initiatives with you. These include many EAUC Company Members who have joined the EAUC to share their experiences to make the sector more sustainable. We encourage you all to maximise this opportunity by talking to these suppliers and finding out what they have to offer.

Events

To supplement the traditional workshop sessions and plenaries, the Conference also offers delegates a number of networking events. These are all designed to allow you to meet new contacts and share experiences in informal setting and inspire you to seek new approaches to common problems. They also give you a chance to let your hair down and celebrate the year’s successes - something we all don’t do enough of! • Personal development session to kick-start your Conference experience – Wednesday 17 April a.m. • Meet the exhibitors drinks reception – Wednesday 17 April p.m. • Facilitated networking event – Wednesday 17 April p.m. • Conference Gala dinner and entertainment – Thursday 18 April p.m.

Sponsor a student

We are maintaining our popular “sponsor a student” day which was introduced in 2012. It will take place on Thursday 18 April. Support one, or several, of your students to attend the Conference. For a heavily subsidised fee, your student(s) can enjoy the whole day with unlimited access to the Conference sessions, exhibition and plenary. A worthwhile investment in our future sustainable drivers and leaders. Please spread the word and encourage your institution to sponsor a student. If you are keen to sponsor but do not have a student, we can find one for you! Please contact us directly. *A student needs to be enrolled on a full time course with a further or higher education institution.
