Playing the piano in the Great Hall, counting the eagles or spotting the rodents on our children’s trails are just a few of the things you can do in the house throughout the year. Once inside, exotic timbers, luscious velvets, vibrant blue and white Delft tiles all set against a backdrop of the dark panelling and faded tapestries, give you a chance to immerse yourself in the 1690’s when Dyrham house was created by William Blathwayt, a hard-working civil servant. The contrasting servants’ quarters with Victorian kitchen and larders give you an idea of life below stairs.

Find out more about the garden and its history with a free guided tour, available Fri – Tues between Feb – Oct (see website for details).

The first glimpse of the bright sandstone mansion, revealing itself within the valley of the park is one of those “wow” moments for many visitors. The Latin inscription above the West Door “his utere mecum” translates as “share all this with me”, so please come on in!

Escape to the peaceful West Garden for a quiet, relaxing stroll and admire the splendid borders, ancient ponds and a perry pear orchard. The West Garden is a place to enjoy throughout the year, as the colours change with the seasons. Find your favourite picnic spot on the lawn or enjoy the garden’s tranquility on one of our benches. In the warmer months enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn, free of charge.
