Murphy Gets Healthy Written by Jade Peterken and Stieve De Lance with illustrations by Franky Demaria Design.
Murphy loves treats. Sometimes, that’s all he wants to eat. The children at school love to give him yummy snacks. He likes to do tricks to say thank you.
One day, Murphy did a trick and got a tummy ache. Was it maybe because of something he ate?

“What should I do if I feel sick?” Murphy asks the children at recess. “You should go to Penny, the School Nurse!” the children say.
Murphy goes to see Penny, the School Nurse. “Have you been getting enough exercise, Murphy?” asks Nurse Penny. “Have you been eating your vegetables?”
Murphy shakes his head. Nurse Penny says he will have to eat better if he wants the tummy ache to go away! “We can have treats sometimes,” Nurse Penny says. “But it is best not to have them every day. It wouldn’t be a special treat if that’s all we ever ate! You also need to go outside and run around to get exercise.”
The next day, Murphy and the school children eat lunch together.
“Would you like some treats?” asks Alex. “No, thank you, maybe later after I have eaten all my vegetables!” says Murphy.
Carrots
Peas
Bananas
Instead of treats, Murphy eats some fruit and vegetables. Murphy loves peas, carrots and bananas too! In fact, he loves them so much they are almost like treats!
Murphy and the kids all eat healthy together. But Murphy still feels a little unwell.

“How about we play a game too and do some exercise?” Sally says. “Tag, you’re it, Murphy!”
Murphy spends all lunchtime chasing the children. Now he feels much better.
After school, Murphy decides to run on the beach to get even healthier.
Murphy spots his three Burrunan dolphin friends, called Turner, Hindley and Sandy.
“What are you doing, Murphy?” asks Hindley. “I’m exercising,” he answers. “Penny the School Nurse said I need to get healthy! How do you stay healthy?”
“We do lots of swimming and eat lots of fish,” says Hindley. “Exercise is a great way to get healthy.”
“It is,” says Turner. “How about a race?” Murphy thinks a race sounds fun.
Murphy and his dolphin friends line up. Ready, set, go!
Murphy runs. Murphy runs as fast as he can!
The dolphins swim. They swim as fast as they can!
Murphy gets to the end first. He’s the winner!
“Yay, Murphy,” says Sandy. “You’re really fast!” “You must be getting very healthy!” Turner says.
It’s getting late. Time for Murphy to head back! He had a great day being healthy with his Burrunan dolphin friends.
The next day at Firbank Grammar School, Murphy sees his friends. “Hi, Murphy!” says Alex. “Is your tummy ache better?” “Yes, it is!” Murphy says.
Murphy played and ran around all day and had a yummy, healthy lunch. Murphy had so much fun that he forgot all about his tummy ache! It’s all gone now!
“Being healthy is great!” Murphy says. “I’m going to keep exercising and eating healthy food. I feel much better now!”
