Fatality at Wyckoff House Fire
Where There’s Smoke … There’s Burning Trash
On November 5, 2023, the Wyckoff Fire Department was dispatched to Meer Avenue for a house fire. On arrival companies encountered heavy fire in the rear of the two-story frame dwelling with entrapment. A second alarm was requested. The lone female occupant was quickly located and removed from the building in cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital. As conditions deteriorated, command transmitted a third alarm and briefly pulled all members out of the building. After a quick transitional attack crews re-entered the building and quickly knocked down the main body of fire. The fire was placed under control in just over an hour, sadly the occupant passed away at the hospital due to her injuries. The fire is under investigation by the Bergen County Arson Squad, Wyckoff Fire Prevention and Police Dept. - Fire News photos by Peter Danzo
Trenton firefighters, trying to locate the source of a smoky haze in the area, discovered a fire in a Trenton Public Works Department building on November 1, 2023. The crew discovered the smoke was coming from a large warehouse on the grounds of the city’s Streets Division facility. The all-hands signal was transmitted and Engines 10, 1, 6 and 7, Ladders 4 and 1, and Special Services 1 were dispatched to assist. Firefighters forced entry to the building, and found the smoke was coming from a burning garbage truck. With aid of a public works employee, firefighters moved the truck outside to an empty area of the property. Damage to the truck made it impossible to open the hopper. The firefighters had to cut their way into the hopper to fully extinguish the burning trash. - Fire News photo by Michael Ratcliffe
