have been issued for the provision of First Aid within the workplace BS 8599-1:2011 Over the last 14 years the first aid industry has complied with the guidelines as set out in the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations Approved Code of Practice 1997. This document outlined a range of advice to employers for the provision of first aid within the workplace. Over the past decade the requirement of the contents of a first aid kit has evolved and this has been recognised by the British Healthcare Trade Association who has worked, analysed and developed a solution that is fit for purpose in todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s workplace environment.

New Contents The British Healthcare Trade Association (BHTA) has through a process of consultation, research and clinical review devised 4 NEW First Aid Kits that more closely reflect the potential accidents in the workplace in 2011. From the 1st July 2011 these kits will become the ‘BS-8599-1 Compliant Workplace First Aid Kits’ for workplaces in the UK.

Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s New?

As can be seen from the table of contents opposite the new BS-8599-1 Compliant Workplace First Aid Kit content is significantly more comprehensive than the old kit content. The new products included in the BS-8599-1 Compliant Workplace First Aid Kits are as follows:

Saline Cleansing Wipes

Foil Blanket

The new Saline Wipes allow for use on an open wound, whereas the old non alcohol wipe could only be used to cleanse unbroken skin.

Ideal for retaining & maintaining body heat in cold conditions and in the treatment of injuries and patients suffering from shock.

Microporous Tape

Burn Dressing

Multipurpose, comfortable paper tape with a microporous, non-woven backing and low allergy adhesive. Used for securing dressings.

Burns dressings cool the burn injury without any pre-cooling with water or any other medium. The dressing does not dry out within one hour of application.

Nitrile Gloves Nitrile Gloves are latex free and offer a far superior glove in terms of both protection, comfort and sensitivity compared with the vinyl glove in the old kit content. Our Nitrile Gloves conform to AQL 1.5, CE Class 1 Medical Grade and are in compliance with BS EN 455.

Tufkut Shears

Finger Dressing

This can be used as a form of retention and also offer light support.

This is a new dressing added to the new kit content. This dressing is used on small cuts to fingers. It comprises of a small low adherent pad attached to a conforming bandage.

Resuscitation Face Shield

Tufkut shears are blunt ended scissors which allow the cutting of dressings/ bandages but can also be used to safely remove items of clothing.

Conforming Bandage

Eye Wash Sterile Sodium Chloride 0.9% solution can be used for eye and wound irrigation where access to water may not be available.

Guidance

The Resuscitation Face Shield includes a one way valve and provides a hygienic barrier when giving mouth to mouth resuscitation, minimising the risk of cross infection.

Which Kit do I require? Similar to the old HSE kits the content of the new BS-8599-1 Compliant Workplace First Aid Kits are appropriate for use based on a combination of the risk of the workplace and the number of employees and visitors. The table below can be used as a guide to ascertain which compliant kit you require for your workplace - please note that it is the duty of the employer to make an assessment of the first aid needs appropriate to the circumstances of your workplace and the below acts as a guide only. Where there are special circumstances, such as remoteness from emergency medical services, shiftwork or sites with several separate buildings, there might need to be more first aid kits than set out in Table 2. Claims No claims can be entertained for damage or deficiency unless our office is notified in writing within the times specified: Non-delivery - within 14 days from date of invoice. Damage or deficiency - within 3 days from receipt. Accounts Payment is nett 30 days from date of invoice. First Aid Warehouse has the right to claim and be paid interest at the rate of 4% per annum above the Base Rate as quoted by Barclays Bank Plc on invoices which remain unpaid after their due date. Non Stock Items We will be happy to source a non-stock item for you. However, you will be required to purchase the minimum order quantities stipulated by the manufacturer and accept delivery times.
