Welcome from Double C Red Angus...

This is is the hardest welcome I have done ever for our catalogue. Tears well up as I even think of what we are about to do with the completion of the catalogue. We have only ever had one other standalone female sale and it was in 2012. This sale will be different because we aren’t offering either/or. We are giving you, our absolute heart of our herd. From 6 years and under with our red cows and most all our black cows. Why, are we doing this, because we are getting older and we need to cut back drastically.

Cameron has compiled a one in a million Red Angus cow group for you to view and bid on. These are our handpicked girls that we wanted to go into the future with. They are all our keeper young cows and bred heifers. They have been selected to be the very best replacement females. You will have a selection of AI females along with our females off the sires we chose for our leading ladies.

This sale is an unexpected event that we must do as we are getting older and can’t do what we could even 5 years ago. Our kids are grown and gone and this outfit was a family run and operated unit. Half our staff have moved on to their own lives so it is time for us to reduce major and so we offer you our very top young cows. The only ones kept back are ones that have bred late or have some issues that Cameron will not allow to be sold. So, rest assured they are the very top of Double C Red Angus.

Welcome to the Heart of the Herd female sale put on by your hosts Double C Red Angus. This is a very unique opportunity to purchase some very productive and high quality angus cows that are right in their peak production years. These are without a doubt their very best cows that they are offering you. These fe males have not been picked through, nor have any in the age range being offered for sale been held back. Every female on the farm from the yearlings to the six year olds will be in Moose Jaw for your appraisal. The only females you will find in this offering out of that range are some very select mature cows. These have been offered right off the top and are the very best producing cows Double C has to offer. If your looking for a no miss donor female, this very elite group of mature females would be a great place to start. As you follow through your catalogue you will see that they are broken up into the main cow families. This high lights the maternal strength and the overall importance that these cow families play in the Double C herd. The cows were pictured and videod on grass before weaning so the udders are highlighted. As you can see we did not picture every cow, but you can find videos of every lot on the DLMS website. This is very much so a no nonsense herd, problem cows are eliminated before they can become herd problems, so please study the offering and bid and buy with confidence.

The cattle will be arriving at Johnstone’s Auction mart ahead of the sale and will be available for pre sale day viewing by mid afternoon Thursday and well as all day Friday. If you do want to get a little homework done ahead of time please feel free to stop by the mart and go through the entire offering. The Double C crew, my sales management team and many of the other sale stuff will also be on site these days prior to answer any questions you may have.

Herd Health...

The Double C Red Angus cow herd is on an excellent herd health program. They are vaccinated annually against BVD, IBR, PI3 & BRSV (MLV/Express FP5), as well as blackleg (Tasvax 8). They are also on a scour-pre vention program (Scour Bos), and are treated regularly against parasites. These producers take the health of their herd seriously, and make the time to do things right. I am happy to say that although I enjoy working with this herd, I rarely see them for anything other than routine health visits!

Rebecca Cow Family...

This cow family traces back to the Red Double C Rebecca 479K cow. Jenna Loveridge took a picture of Rebecca 497K, many moons ago and we always called her our ‘picture perfect cow’. You’ll find a couple cows in this sale that go back to 497K. We decided to breed her to a black bull and produced some exceptional black red carriers. Then we crossed this cow family we loved so much with our favourite black bull J Square S Jag 309A. We ended up with an incredible outcross black red carrier cow in 32C. Out of 6 offspring the last 4 have been red. She produced Red Double C Handsome 18H, the high selling bull in our 2021 Bull Sale that went to Lone Stone Farms and Hori zon Red Angus, Alberta for $20,000. Her bred heifer is also being offered today – Red Double C Rebecca 270J.

This cow family has everything a person can dream about in cows- they are powerful girls and will produce awe some bull and heifer calves that you’ll pick out in the pen all the time. Rebecca is bred back to a similar breeding as last year; the heifer calf that walks beside her is grabbing lots of attention and is a good indication of what is to come.

This cow is our gift of perfection from God above for all the years of bettering what we started with. She is special and she needs to continue her journey with someone who can make her what she should be - a supreme matri arch in our Red Angus breed. Poteet or Pteet Cow Family...

We introduce you to the Poteet family with a young hard working cow Red Double C Poteet 794G. All of the younger cows put all their weight into the milk for their calves and they raise some stupendous ones for us. This girl has raised us two bull calves to date that are born small and grow well. This young cow has a mom that has raised us 9 heifer calves out of 12 calves that she has given us in her lifetime and her mom is still working for us this year. Longevity is what we strive for here thus why we work so hard on the foundation they stand on. I think when Darnell went through the cow herd in early August, he was surprised at what he witnessed. In a herd of over 200 females on average, you won’t find many that need to have their feet touched in anyway. We have worked hard to have heel under our cattle and decent bone to carry their impressive deep bodies that we like in our females. We do not follow show trends, rather we seek cows with substance, style and the pheno type to have cows that last forever. These cow families that we love so much have done that for us.

794G is headed to be that kind of cow for her new owner. She is pictured in her working clothes and when you see her even now, she has put on a fair amount of weight and she looks so cool with her shiny deep burgundy red hair coat. The Poteet or Pteet cow family are easy keeping cattle that stand the test of time in our herd. They often go back to elite momma’s and grandma’s which means they have the pedigree to be great themselves.

This particular young cow has a unique twist of pedigree on her dad’s side. We worked with Rachel and Darwin Dansock of High Caliber Red Angus out of Esterhazy, with Darwin falling in love with a lot of our herd bulls, so much so that in the later years of their program they were stacked with some of the best of our bull sale offerings. One spring Cameron was worried about one of our sires so he approached Darwin about a 2-year-old bull he was keeping for himself but he was kind enough to sell us Carbine 110C who dates back to Moose Creek Swayze on the bull side and on the dam’s side Red Double C Useni 922U. This fellow had all our favorite sires, from Cumnock Big John, to Red Knight to Buffalo Creek Cherokee Canyon 4912. With this combination you have length of body and beautiful well-balanced udders that stand the test of time and the momma’s milk strong. What you will notice with all of our girls they almost always start out with very tight small udders that produce lots of milk even as first calvers and then as they get older the udders drop some but they do not get too large that they start to break down as older cows. So, look to this cow family for longevity, and pretty stylish cattle that know how to work in all types of conditions.

Roga Cow Family...

CPRA 735G will be our choice to introduce you to the Roga family. Brian McKenzie chose Roga 735G as a calf for the Red Round Up sale but we were unable to make it that year with her. The following year he asked for her again as a bred heifer and she went on the trailer with the Steen Angus crew. We wanted only sale average or my pet was com ing home.

Roga is bomb proof and big. The Roga family is a cut above the rest for size. 735G tipped the scales at Round up at 1500lbs on the nose. She is down a couple hundred pounds from bringing in an outstanding second calf. We weaned on Thursday of this past week and Roga is still calling to her daughter. This cow is well balanced with a beautiful tight udder that is slowly maturing as she does. If you are looking to increase the size of your cow herd look no further. You have it in this quiet bomb proof halter broke cow.

Her dam, 474B, pedigree is stacked with elite dams - CPRA 93Z (still working in our herd), CPRA 115P and LPG 47E. This cow famiy is a power house of elite dams and they are all having 10 plus calves in their lifetime that go on to make their mark on their calves. This cow is destined for a life of producing great offspring so we believed enough in her to not release her until now. As usual as I type this the tears are flowing. This girl will be shown to you in her calf picture and her bred picture that graced the Red Round Up catalogue and now we will finally allow her to go to a new home but not without a lot of emotion on this decision. This cow family is elite anyway you look at them and we are sure Roga 735G will do it as well.

Red Double C Nicolet 307D is actually from the Nicolette family but I changed the name again because of the too many letters in a name rule. This cow comes from some great sires like a direct descendant of the one and only Red YY Red Knight 640F and that daughter of Red Knight went Elite easily. Then come forward to this girl and again we have Flying K coming to the forefront to give you this exceptional cow. She has left me with a heifer calf this year so I am not crying as hard as I am over all these gorgeous girls we are parting with.

Blockana and Dream Ann Cow Families...

The Blockana cow family is one we are very fond of at home. We have retained a lot of females over the years as these cows have a solid foundation of feet under them. The ones we have here today have lots of middle and volume.

We loved the Blockana family - they were almost every third cow on the farm; so when Charlene’s Annie (4-H heifer- 902N) came to the front of the line we started up the Dream Ann line with 902N and then 666T. From here came the Dream Ann girls. But remember they go back to the Blockana family. They are sweet fronted girls with beautiful shaped skulls that remind you of what an angus cow should look like. CPRA 666T was a spitting replica of her mother and she had a temperament that made for excellent show prospects. If you want pretty in a little bit larger package then look to any of the Dream Ann or the foundation Blockana la dies. When we look at the bulls behind this family we find Indeed, Red BFCK Cherokee CYNY 4912, and so on. If you like these ladies go follow their pedigrees back on your own you will like what you see. There is always a mix that makes for some pretty special cows that we believed in.

Charleen Cow Family...

The Charlene family goes back to the Nicolette family but this pair I will introduce you to from the Charlene family deserve to be on their own, but know they go back to this strong Nicolette group. I changed a few cows’ family names because I was getting bored using the same names every year. So, this family is made up of two animals on offer in this sale. The cow we did not picture due to the calf she has on her was draining her dry and this year she also went elite in the angus criteria.

I want to talk about Double C Charlene 238D first. She is a black red carrier female off the J Square S Jag 309A bull that we think so highly of and this momma cow went elite this year with 4 calves averaging a Ratio of 109 so though we don’t have a picture of her in the catalogue look to her video and then come see her in person. She is a cow that is destined to be awesome.

We are also offering a red daughter from her in Red Double C Charlene 162J which is a female we would have loved to keep for ourselves. You also will note that she has produced more red calves than she has black so the carrier influence seems to favor red calves.

We like our black/red carrier cows. They show the hybrid vigor and they have offspring that out do their mom’s every time. The bred heifer on offer is a JJL Duke daughter that will be a cut above the rest in anyone’s herd with the pedigree behind her. She will be a big girl and should produce herd bulls and replacement heifers you will be proud to have within your herd.

Roxie Cow Family...

Roxie cows are long and smooth cows. They are moderate framed with sweet dispositions. These cows again are what they are because of their sire side. In the pedigree on the dam’s side we go back to our bull that is king of feet and length, good old Red Cumnock Big John. Then we used some Red Knight through Red Double C Prince 329J, a fellow that assisted in udder uniformity and balance along with fertility in both his daughters and his son’s. I always forget until I look at the pedigrees how close these influential bulls are in all our ladies.

The Roxie family was only one cow way back when that has come to the forefront with our Blockana’s and Poteets. They belong in our herd right up there with them. We have old name cows with 22nd century offspring that have what it takes to add to any herd they go into. We breed for soundness, temperament and longevity which comes from proper phenotypic traits that are visible with the eyes not numbers on the paper. Numbers play a very small part in our selection criteria.

Daisy Cow Family...

Our lead off for the Daisy family is 428E. This girl comes from our 415B bull that goes back to Wraz Howie 80Z. Unfortunately we only had Howie for one breeding season but he left a stamp on our herd with these dark faced calves that grow so well. We were able to get some herdsires off of him and have used them a lot these last several years.

This girl is so smooth through her body and stylish with that dark face and deep red color. This cow family showcases deep bodied and well balanced females that will catch your eye out in the pasture. This girl was selected by Brian MacKenzie as a bred heifer for Red Round Up but she hurt herself and was swollen in her right shoulder so she stayed home. Now you have the opportunity to purchase her if she fits your criteria like she does ours. She is a beautiful cow with the looks to turn many an eye. She is a great mother and her offspring stand out at well. This cow family had its name changed to Daisy be cause of a black bull we bought from the Senft family that sold us New Force Krugerrand 1H. Remember we like making black/red carrier cows and then going back to red through some more crosses. This cow family is one of them. Their original name was the Roxie Family. See how the blacks work to enhance both sides of the pedigrees. I believe we call this hybrid vigor and done with a keen eye for cattle the results jump you forward 4 times as fast. The first cross is always good but the next few crosses show the true understanding of the eye behind the move to attempt this. Cameron is a master of it and he understands great cattle in all breeds and he has done an amazing job within our herd.

Marslite Cow Family...

The Marslite cow family is showcased by 422E. This cow has a well-balanced udder and a strong foundation of feet and legs under her. The females in this family are much the same. Expect easy moving easy keepers from these girls in your herd.

This Marslite family has fertility like you won’t believe. This cows grandmother had 17 offspring for us. This cow line will make you money with their longevity. Chance had a Marslite cow, CPRA 865N, that gave us 12 calves in 12 years. The only problem was she liked having bull calves so we only have one of her two daughters still working for us. So this Marslite cow line has fertility to burn which means great breeding sons. If you need to spice up your fertility this is the family to do it with. Fertility and longevity are in this cow line.

CPRA 199J is another name change that really is part of the Marslite line. This bred heifer goes back to CPRA 18Z which holds a very special place in Cameron’s estimation of a perfection package of a cow. This bred heifer is one we would love to grab back. How to describe 18Z. We call them chunky monkies as that is what Jenna and Jarred call the whole works of them and Marci 199J will be no different. She should develop into a big thick loined, long spined, thick middled cow with a solid foundation underneath her. She should go on to produce many beautiful offspring starting off with a Moonshine off of Red Goad Pilsner 183’21 who we purchased to use on our heifers this year. So put Marci where she belongs by heritage right alongside the Marslite cows here at Double C.

Maggie Cow Family...

Maggie cows are easy keeping Moderate framed girls that put everything they have got into their calves. They have well balanced udders and good bone structure.

This cow will be more moderate than some of our cows but you need to understand that she is a Flying K Max daughter and he is the perfect cross on this cow family. If you go look at CPRA 32C’s heifer calf at side she is a granddaughter of this kind of breeding. Her dad CPRA 503B is a Max son. So the Maggie family is made stronger by the Max bull from Flying K. He has been around like forever and his grandchildren are still making good money for the Flying K crew. This cow has Boomer 503B on the bottom side of this cow and also Red Knight through Romero 41R a bull we raised and used for a few years.

Red Double C Roka 210D is a perfect cow to introduce this family. Roka 210D is a Bonanza daughter. If you see our sign on the highway coming into our farm you will see Bonanza on the sign and he is on our banner for bull sale each and every year. We sold Bonanza for $14,000 to some very special friends of ours from Spy Hill. Diana and Gary Clark of Meadow Stock Farm bought red bulls from us for a lot of years for their first Simental based cow herd and then Di slowly made them in to predominantly red angus base with a bit of Simmental Bonanza sold for 50% ownership with us retaining 50% and when they went out of cattle, we bought Bonanza back.

This daughter of Bonanza has gone elite this year and no wonder why. Her son Gladiator sold to the Palmers in Saskatoon and then we have two daughters from her that are on offer in our sale in CPRA 3H and CPRA 183J. This cow line has a powerhouse of strength and why not buy the matriarch. She is a typical female for our herd. Solid foundation that just gets better as you look up from the ground. She has style and substance and is a great moth er cow.

Soxro Cow Family...

A cow line we aquired from John and Patricia Simpson of Symbrae Red Angus of Theodore SK. Pat is actually my first cousin and it was where I learned about the Red Angus Breed. So Louise bought this cow from John but it had orig inally come from her dad Ken Frazer of Six mile and this cow was from Tew Soxro. The cow line has Iceberg, Licorice and some of the old reminants of the original sires. We have this line because they produce to stay. We haven’t a lot of them but then we started with only one cow. So if you want some foundation pedigrees then take a look at this darling. She is in our herd so she has made the cut each and every year. Her mother was off of Flying K 96X so this girl will have the supreme femininity that Flying K looks for in their females and this girl shows those characteristics.

Anita Cow Family...

Red Double C Anita 486E is the daughter of CPRA 358W who is the mother of Red Double C Diesel 218D perhaps one of the most unique herd bulls we were blessed to produce. This cow family goes back to the Roxie cow, hence the name change. For some reason I don’t like a cow family named after my little sister. LOL. This cow has some pretty wonder ful grandmothers and great grandmothers to follow in their footsteps. If we look at her mom 358W you look at a cow that every cow man that has stepped in this yard has gravitated to this cow. She is long, thick, deep and just a hunk of a cow. So her daughter 486E should follow in her footsteps. Her brother Diesel was a unique bull that had every thing but maybe just a little too extreme for the day he was born into. A bonanza son that hit the ground when show cattle were almost low line in size and Diesel probably would have been a frame score well above 7 when he matured and if he had been allowed to fill into his frame would have been a 2700lb bull. So if you want a cow that will mature on the wee bit bigger size her mom and brother say she should. She is a one and only and she’s a very special one.

Baroness Cow Family...

Red Double C Baroness 246D is a cow that came from a heifer we bought in the Bell Dispersal sale way back when. We didn’t buy many cows to bring into our herd that lasted long but this girl’s mom lasted a few years. I just searched the cow line and she traces back to Larado farms and then back to the Frazers with good old Licorice as one of the sires of this cow line. Now that is going back to the beginning.

This cow has Bonanza as a father so we expect great things from this girl. She will have the dark head and legs that Bonanza likes to throw and if she doesn’t have it her calves will carry that coloring. She is a beauty of a cow and she could be yours.

An original cow from our second year of purchasing yearling heifers from the Youngs at Careivale. This cow has not disappointed us, not one moment. She is carrying an amazing service to a Sitz Major son in Jaguire 143J. This Pride cow is the pride of our blacks. You will not go wrong taking her home to your herd.

217D - . This girl is incredible. She’s got tons of volume through her middle and length of her body. As smooth as the day is long and an even quartered udder. Her offspring grow into tanks just like their momma. Expect exceptional calves out of this black cow family. 217D’s mom was YDF 125B. That cow was literally a tank. Comparable to CPRA 32C for volume and substance. This cow comes in a moderate sized package but she will fool you with her weight. She is so deep and robust, again like fine wine, she weighs more than you think. She is a beauty and lots have told us she is their eye candy when they go through the blacks. The really great thing is she produces even better than she is no matter what bull she is exposed too. I just wish she would give more heifers but her bull calves bring darn good coin. 53E - This cow is another that we purchased from Young Dale farms. We loved their black cattle and how they per formed so we kept buying more. This momma wanted to get her picture taken with her calf so we obliged. She’s got a fancy & stylish bull calf by her side this year. This girl is long and smooth and this cow family will give you some stylish calves.

This mom is a great cow but her looks are in her calves. Her offspring outperform her every single time. Cameron loves gorgeous girls and this girl comes in a plain jane package so to appreciate her you have to look at what she produc es. She is young and has only had a couple of babies. So really look at this young lady’s pedigree and know that her offspring will be to drool over. With her being exposed to Double C Jaguire who is an AI son of Sitz Major 707F the baby she is carrying is going to be pretty special. Her daughter in the sale is CPRA 232J. Do not underestimate what this young cow can do with the right bulls for her to be with.

635F - this girl comes out of our favourite black herdsire Jag. He was such a great black bull that one year Cameron even threw him out with some of our favourite red cows so that we could throw some black genetics into our herd to take back to red again! His daughters have lots of volume in the middle and are so sweet to look at. They consistently perform in our herd. Her momma is out of our favourite cow that we purchased from Youngdale- Elba 3C. She has loved to give us females in our herd that have great udders, and tons of volume. We can always pick the girls out from this cow family. Cameron allowed me to venture into blacks a few years back after we had Jag 309A for a year or two and boy did the Youngdale females cross exceptional with Jag. CPRA 635F is one of those young cows. We do not have a lot of straight black cows but because of Cameron’s keen eye for finding great cattle he picked out some exceptional females from Youngdale

This young cow came inside her dam that we pur chased on line from Chad Hollinger. We had purchased another bred heifer in the sale from Jordan Sies so we wanted to buy something from Chad as well so this girl was the calf inside of the dam. She is very different to what our black cows from Young Dale but she is special.

Terms and Conditions Of Sale

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable to Double C Red Angus at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Double C Red Angus reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for their purchase, Double C Red Angus reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, Double C Red Angus, and staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default of payment and/or who has not made credit arrangements prior to the sale with the owners and/or sales management.

BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the the highest bidder.

DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters wll be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENT’S from the block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attentionto any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper registration or recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but sale management or seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are request ed to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. Bulls will by delivered free of charge within reasonable distances so long as Double C Red Angus can do so within a day or two of required time, and notice is given in advance of the delviery date reqiured.

GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian Breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the case of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to the applicable Canadian Breed Association Guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze.

HEALTH - We ensure our bulls are semen tested and have passed all breeding health protocols.

ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, Auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.
