MAHA: 3 NAXALS KILLED IN ENCOUNTER WITH POLICE IN GADCHIROLI

Mumbai: Three Naxalites, including a dalam commander, were killed in an encounter with police’s C60 Commandos in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli on Sunday evening.

Ludhiana: 11 people, including 3 minors, were killed and 11 others hospitalised following an incident of gas leakage in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Sunday. The incident took place in Giaspura, a thickly populated residential-cumindustrial area, at around 7:30 am. One cat was also found dead on the spot. The injured were rushed to a hospital, police said. A team of doctors and ambulances were also called to the spot. The Punjab government has announced an ex-gratia of ` 2 lakh for the kin of each deceased and `50,000 for the injured.

Gas sampling will be done by the NDRF. They will confirm what kind of gas it was. Blood sampling of the deceased is also being done. Doctors said that the gas affected their brains and not their lungs.

Of the 11 dead, five were from one family, besides a couple and three from another family. One deceased, who was in his mid-20s, is yet to be identified.

THE INITIAL PROBE REPORTS STATE THAT...

Initial reports said there were four deep freezers placed inside a grocery store. People who went to buy groceries from the store fell unconscious. And those who went to rescue the people also fell unconscious. Authorities suspect that the gas might have been leaked from these freezers.
