No decision on implementation of UCC as of now: Kiren Rijiju BUDGET SESSION
New Delhi (ANI): The Centre has not taken any decision as of now on the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code in the country, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The Minister was responding to a query regarding “whether Government has any plan to pass the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill”. “As per the information received from the Law Commission, the matter related to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) may be taken up by the 22nd Law Commission for its consideration. Therefore, no decision on the implementation of a uniform civil code has been taken as of now,” said Rijiju. He further responded that the government had requested the 21st Law Commission of India to undertake an examination of various issues relating to UCC and to make recommendations thereon.
However, the term of the 21st Law Commission ended on August 31, 2018, informed the Law Minister.

SC JUNKS PLEA SEEKING TO BAR CANDIDATES FROM CONTESTING FROM MORE THAN 1 SEAT
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a plea that had sought to restrict a candidate from contesting the election for the same office from more than one constituency simultaneously, saying it is a matter of “legislative policy”. A bench observed that candidates may contest elections from different seats due to a variety of reasons and it is Parliament’s will as to whether the course of democracy would be furthered by granting such a choice.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought response of the National Investigation Agency on a plea by separatist leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan seeking bail in a terror-funding case involving 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed. A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Talwant Singh issued notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and asked it to file reply to the petition challenging a trial court’s order denying bail to the accused.

Kochi: Trial proceedings in Periya Twin Murder
Case have begun on Thursday at the court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Witness examination of the first witness Sreekumar at the CBI Court has been started today. Two Youth Congress activists, Kripesh, 19, and Sharath Lal (Joshy), 24, were hacked to death allegedly by CPI(M) activist at Periya in Kasaragod district while returning from an event on February 17, 2019. Kripesh died at the Kasaragod district hospital, while Sharath Lal succumbed to injuries on his way to a medical facility in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
