Bengaluru: Union Minister of State (MoS)Dr Jitendra Singh said that the growth of SCO depends on its success in science, technology and innovation sectors and there is a need to transform this landscape.
Dr Singh, delivering his inaugural address at the Second SCO Young Scientist Conclave in Bengaluru noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the 19th Meeting of Council of Heads of State of SCO, had coined an acronym HEALTH (‘H’ for Healthcare cooperation, ‘E’ for Economic cooperation,
‘A’ for Alternate Energy, ‘L’ for Literature and Culture ‘T’ for Terrorism free society, ‘H’ for Humanitarian Coopera- tion). He said that SCO brings together the colorful and distinctive cultures of Central and South Asia.
He said the SCO consists of approximately 42% of the world’s population, 22% of its land area, and it contributes
20% to the global GDP. He said the SCO countries have demographic advantage of having large number of young people.
Dr Singh highlighted Food security as a major area of concern for SCO economies, as it accounts for a combined population of over three billion people. He said that technology will play a critical role in enhancing both, the quality and quantity, across the agriculture value chain from the use of inputs at the pre-production stage to post-production and marketing to improve the income of farmers.
Kolkata: Forceful removal of the innerwear of a minor girl is equivalent to rape even if rape, as per medical terms, has not been done by the accused or convict, the Calcutta High Court has held. A single judge bench made this ruling while hearing a case in which Robi Roy was declared as guilty by a lower court in Dinajpur district in 2008. On May 7, 2007, Roy was acccused of alluring a minor girl in his locality to a secluded place after promising her an ice cream. There he first asked her to remove her innerwear. When the victim refused, he forcefully removed her innerwear.

Chandigarh (Agencies): Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday said the BJP-JJP government of Haryana has failed to protect the life and property of the people.
Reacting to Haryana lagging behind in the Social Progress Index released by the Central government, Hooda said Haryana is at the bottom with just 33 points in terms of civil security.
This report, made on parameters like murder and other heinous incidents, shows the people of Haryana do not feel safe. The report has stamped the fact that the coalition BJP-JJP government has proved to be a complete failure in handling law and order, Hooda said.
