Oil released after breaking the outer covering of godambi dry fruit leaves deep scars on their hands

Washim: Women in several villages in Washim district of the state earn a living by breaking “bhilawa”, the outer covering of a nut called godambi, a dry fruit. But this has an occupational hazard: while breaking the bhilawa, an oil is released which causes wounds on the skin. The oil released by breaking the “bhilawa” leads to deep scars and marks. As a result, the physical appearance of women is affected due to the oil that comes out. According to the women, it becomes difficult for girls to get married due to this work.

Rupali Tayde, who lives in Amani village of Washim said, “The oil that flies on the body after breaking “bhilawa” leaves stains, due to which there is a problem in the marriage of girls. Even people from outside do not want to marry their girls in this village. They believe that if they get married in this village, then their girls will also have to do the same work.” years of age and a girl who is less than 18 years old. The 16-year-old girl did not take her Maths paper on Monday prompting an activist to raise an alert through Childline helpline 1098. When gramsevak (village worker) Dnyaneshwar Mukade reached the girl's place, he learnt about the girl's marriage to a 24-year- old man, the official said. Mukade tried to seek details about the alleged illegal act but her relatives did not respond to his questions. A case was then registered under the Child Marriage Restraint Act, 1929, the official said. Activist Tatwashil Kamble said the wedding was already over when officials reached.

22 Electric Meters Of Residential Building Gutted In Thane Fire

Thane: At least 22 electric meters were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the meter room of a building near Kalwa township in Thane district, civic officials said. No one was reported injured in the incident. A fire broke out in the meter room of a four-story building located in Vitawa, Thane at around 1 am, according to a Thane disaster management cell official. The building was a ground-plus four-storey structure. Fire Brigade personnel quickly arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the flames within an hour.
