Racecourse clears `6.75 cr pending dues to civic body

Mumbai: The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has cleared its pending rent dues of Mahalaxmi Racecourse of Rs6.75 crore and has submitted an undertaking demanded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). With this, the long dispute between the civic body and RWITC has come to an end.

Major fire at hardware store leaves 2 dead in Mumbai’s Andheri

Mumbai: Two men were killed in a fire that broke out in a hardware shop at Sakinaka in Mumbai in the wee hours on Monday, officials said. The blaze broke out at around 2 AM in the shop located near the Sakinaka metro station.
Initially, it was feared that some persons got trapped inside the shop, the official said, adding that teams of Fire Brigade and police rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation.
“During the search, fire officials found a 22-year-old man with serious burn injuries.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” he said. Another man, aged 23, who has been missing, was also found inside the shop by Fire Brigade personnel.

Drunk peon dismissed for trying to inject child
First India Bureau Palghar: A peon at a healthcare centre in Palghar district was fired from his job on Monday after he tried to give a child brought there for treatment an injection, while allegedly in an inebriated condition, an official said.
The child’s parents had objected to the peon trying to admin ister the injection in place of a doctor or nurse, the official said.
The dismissal or der issued here in the evening said the ac tion was taken on the directions of Zilla Parishad president Prakash Nikam.
Officer Dr Dayanand Suryavanshi had earlier said. Nikam condemned the episode, a video of which was widely shared on social media, and warned staff against a repeat of such incidents.

First India Bureau Mumbai: The Oshiwara police has booked a man for negligence with respect to animals after he allegedly unleashed his adopted stray on children who were playing in the building premise at the plush Brighton Tower at Second Cross Road in Andheri (West) on March 23, officials said.
The police are yet to arrest the accused identified as Rajkumar Shahabadi, booked under the bailable offense.
The society members have alleged that this was the third such incident that has taken place there. They told that last year in May, Shahabadi’s adopted dog bit two people.
In the incident, Siddhant Gupta(14), Son of film producer Ketan Gupta was bitten by an adopted stray while he was playing in the soci- ety compound with his friends. Following the incident, Ketan Gupta filed a complaint against Shahabadi.
“My son is the third victim. He was attacked by Shahabadi’s pet dog, though his condition is stable now, he is totally shaken due to the incident,” Gupta said. He said that a CCTV camera from the building has captured Shahabadi opening the gate and the dog charging at the teen.
