Cops to sponsor education of five-year-old rape survivor

Mumbai (PTI): The police will sponsor the education of a fiveyear-old girl who was sexually assaulted by a boy in the premises of a school in central Mumbai earlier this month, an official said on Saturday.

According to the police, the child was sexually assaulted by a 15-year-old boy in the premises of a civic school in Madanpura area of central Mumbai. The boy, who abandoned the child near her house, was apprehended within hours of the incident.

The woman has said the accused raped her daughter twice, once in Santosh Nagar and also in Aarey colony, the official informed. The accused has charged under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for rape and other offences, the official added.

Mumbai: In a relief to real estate projects, the Bombay High Court on Friday partly allowed plea of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) and directed the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) to decide all pending proposals expeditiously.

It set a deadline of eight weeks for passing of proposals in accordance with the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) 2034 and Unified DCPR.

COPS NAB MAN WANTED FOR 14 HOUSE BREAK-INS

Palghar: The Palghar district police have arrested a 24-year-old man with a criminal record, connected with at least 14 cases of house-breaking, an official said. As part of the investigation into recent burglaries in Virar, the police zeroed in on one Akram Farooque Ansari based on CCTV footage and intelligence inputs, said senior inspector Pramod Badakh of the local Crime Branch. The police took arrested Ansari and recovered jewellery and mobile phones worth nearly Rs3 lakh from him, solving 14 cases, said the official.

Palghar: A police patrol team had a close shave with misfortune when their boat almost capsized in a creek, said an official on Saturday. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Kelva creek. “A team of five policemen was patrolling the coast in a boat when water gushed in due to high tide,” he said. Palghar: A 75-year-old woman was crushed to death on Saturday in Vasai in Palghar district, a police official said. The deceased identified as Parvati Narayan had come to her sister’s house here from Tamil Nadu, a police official said. “The incident took place in Diwanman main circle at around 11 am. The truck was loaded with rations and had left from the local tehsil office. A case has been registered and further probe is underway,” he said.
