The Bluegrass 10,000 kicks off the July 4 holiday early on Tuesday morning! Take extra caution along the routes that will be closed for runners and walkers. Give yourself plenty of time to accommodate road closures along the race route, and along the parade route later in the day.

Lexington’s Junior League Horse Show has grown to be the world’s largest outdoor American Saddlebred show and the first leg of the Saddlebred “Triple Crown.” Today, the show attracts approximately 1,000 world recognized competitors from the U.S. and Canada, has raised over four million dollars for charitable and civic organizations
Celebrate July 4 weekend!
A downtown patriotic concert, parade, and fireworks spectacular will be at the center of Lexington’s booming Fourth of July celebration.
With events such as an annual Ice Cream Social, Patriotic Concert featuring the Lexington Philharmonic, Festival and Market, and Bluegrass 10,000 and Fun Run, there will be something for everyone this Fourth of July.
“Our Fourth of July celebration is one of our biggest celebrations. It is rooted in American tradition,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “This celebration brings together our entire community to celebrate our city and our independence.”
Continuing their partnership with the city, R. J. Corman Railroad Group will once again host the launch site of Lexington’s Fourth of July fireworks. The fireworks will begin at 10 p.m., Tuesday, July 4. For the best viewing experience, Lexington residents and visitors are encouraged to come downtown for the fireworks show.
Lexington Parks and Recreation is overseeing the city’s Fourth of July events. Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Adrienne Thakur says, “Look for festivities each day, beginning Saturday, July 1, to Tuesday, July 4. Moondance Amphitheater, Downtown Lexington, and Transylvania University at Gratz Park will each host concerts, festivals, races, and picnics throughout Lexington.”

Automobiles and other unique types of vehicles will be judged for their historical accuracy, presentation, and cleanliness. Each class winner and runner-up will receive an award, each entrant will receive a Bluegrass Award ribbon, 9 am to 4 pm.

Bluegrass Greensource invites friends and neighbors to RiverFest near Proud Mary BBQ. Enjoy free hands-on test sessions of various paddle crafts, visit the vendor area to learn about other environmental and outdoor businesses and organizations, and stick around after 12pm to grab some lunch riverside at Proud Mary BBQ!

Archa Nine is growing. Their current location in the Oh Nine on Old Todds remains open, but they’re opening an additional spot across town at South Elkhorn.
Ramsey’s closed their Tates Creek location in June.
The Salad Bar has closed their doors at Julietta Market in order to relocate to 2051 Richmond Road, Suite 115 in the Idle Hour shopping center, announcing “we are thankful for all of the support and encouragement. We look forward to breaking lettuce with you all at our very own brick and mortar.”
Ready for your potato oles? Taco John’s opened in June in Brannon Crossing. More Taco Johns are in the planning stages, and Hamburg is one of the rumored potential locations.

Free Trash Disposal Day - July 15
The City of Lexington offers Fayette County residents a free trash disposal day for non-hazardous household waste. The event will be held from 6 a. m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station, 1505 Old Frankfort Pike.
Fayette County residents may dispose of up to one pickup truck load of household waste. Bulky items, such as mattresses, furniture, and up to four tires off the rim, will be accepted at this event.
The guidelines for the free disposal day are:
• Participants must present a valid Fayette County drivers’ license
• All loads must be fit in a standard truck bed
• All loads must be covered by a tarp
• Only household waste will be accepted
• No more than four tires will be accepted, and tires must be off the rim
• No tire rims will be accepted
• No commercial vehicles allowed
• No hazardous materials, freeflowing liquids or yard waste material will be accepted
