FILM+DINING GUIDE The Film House April+May 2018
The Wellspring of Film The Film House is drawing more film-goers than ever. We’ve set attendance records for December, January, February, and we’re on track to post the best March yet. Films such as Lady Bird, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Loving Vincent have all been extraordinarily popular. Members can choose one of these titles they’d like to bring back for one more screening on Saturday 21 April at 6:30PM. Visit our website to cast your vote. Everyone can vote, but Film House Members votes count as two! In April, our See the Music series will hit new heights as we present a one-time screening of Dreams So Real on Saturday 14 April. This freshly released concert film documents a performance by Metric—the internationally famous, synthesizer-driven Canadian rock band—that includes loads of footage from their last tour filmed at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines. April also brings us National Canadian Film Day and The Film House celebrates with two homegrown films: the acclaimed documentary Manufactured Landscapes about world-renowned photographer and St. Catharines native Ed Burtynsky, and Twisted, a short film by St. Catharines documentary filmmaker Jay Cheel that explores the fabled touchdown of a tornado at the Can-View Drive-In. Both films are offered with FREE admission on Wednesday 18 April at 7PM. March saw the smash introduction of a late-night screening, the Cohen brothers’ scripture of Dudeism The Big Lebowski. We’re keeping late-night’s rolling with The Sword and the Claw, a recently exhumed Turkish disaster-piece from the 70s that makes a rare showing on Saturday 26 May, screen-time 11:30PM. If you love film, you owe it to yourself to become a Film House Member and receive discounts on tickets and concessions. Start devouring the diverse program of titles coming your way this spring and all year. It’s where our community gathers to experience great cinema. The film features an incredible breakout turn by Charlie Plummer and memorable supporting work by indie stalwarts Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny and Steve Zahn. “I marveled at the humanist depth of the world Haigh creates, one that can only be rendered by a truly great writer and director, working near the top of their game.” - Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
