Dear First Pres Family,

PRAY IMPACT PRAISE WORSHIP CELEBRATE

What an incredible, and at times incredibly challenging, 12 months 2013 turned out to be. One of the great support mechanisms in this church during challenging times are our Deacons, who tirelessly connect with this congregation. I am so grateful for their ministry and service, and want to deeply thank those Deacons whose terms are coming to an end. You are part of what makes First Pres feel like home for so many in our midst. One of the most exciting aspects of 2013 was the launch of our new vision statement — To Prepare All Generations To Impact Lives For Christ. Through this report we’ve sought ways in which we prepare and impact lives through the life and ministry of First Pres. After much prayer, consideration and reflection, the Session affirmed 2014 as The Year of the City. This is a central focus of one of the three strategic priorities that accompanies our new vision — proclaiming and demonstrating God’s kingdom by engaging our city through opening doors, celebrations of God’s presence and service. During my initial vision message on January 19, I provided a little reflection and direction for where this focus may take us. As we did in 2013 with worship, we will periodically revisit this idea of the Year of the City throughout 2014. First Pres has always had a special connection to Colorado Springs, and we’re in a unique position to minister to this city as God has planted us in the heart of downtown. I feel blessed to call First Pres home, and I pray that you will feel the spirit moving you in new ways as we move through 2014. In Christ,

Graham Baird

W

e celebrate another year of ministry of the family of First Pres and we marvel at the way God continues to call this body into ministry year after year. It is with deep gratitude that we thank two of our Elder Trustees who are stepping down this year. Peter Teets, who along with his wife Vivian, entered our congregation just seven years ago, has served as an Elder Trustee and as Vice Chair of the First Pres Foundation. Randy Case II, raised in our midst, has served as an Elder, as Vice Chair of the First Pres Trustees and Chair of the First Pres Foundation. Both men served the congregation through these last three years of transition as we have moved to our new denomination ECO (eco-pres.org) and provided leadership through our transition to our new Senior Pastor, Graham. Peter and Randy, we are so grateful for the way God has gifted you, and on behalf of our church family, we thank you for your service. A huge thank you also goes to you, each and every member of the congregation. As you read through this celebration of the ministry of First Pres, know that none of it would be possible without the dedication and faith of each and every person who calls First Pres home! We were able to meet our financial goals for 2013 and we are encouraged as we experienced the first increase in our annual commitment in faith since 2011. Thank you for your investment in First Pres ministry. First Pres has been a partner in the city of Colorado Springs for 143 years, that’s a long time. We have a responsibility to continue as a vibrant and vital Christian faith community in Colorado Springs for many, many years to come. Let’s continue to celebrate our Lord’s work and call on our community and ensure that our city block stays brightly lit.

This is the Year of the City. How is God calling you to participate? We look forward to serving you in 2014. First Pres Elders

Celebrate Our Future! 85% of all decisions for Christ happen in the window of a child between 4 and 14 years old. As we raise our children, support families and look to our future, it is still the most important work for our community – ensuring the vibrancy of future generations, the future of our Faith and the future of this particular church family, First Pres!

Prayer

Father, every child is a miracle and we praise You for the children, youth and students who come to First Pres. Bless these young lives, their families and the adults who teach them. Mark the time they share together with Your delight, joy and love. Help us to know how to continue to walk with each and every family You entrust to our care. From the smallest infant to the graduating senior in college, we ask that each and every person connected to our ministry gets to know You for life. Amen.

Prayer

Father, let the Year of our City be a time of discernment for each of us. Open our eyes to the ways You have called us, as individuals and as a church community, to love the city. We pray for unity of our city and that Your light will shine ever brighter. May You do far beyond what we might ask or imagine, according to Your power at work within us. Amen.

Celebrate Our Founda Our home is the better part of two city blocks of concrete, bricks and asphalt. It’s our corner from which we have launched ministry and witnessed for Christ for over 143 years. Life long ministry to our city and our world starts here.

Father, we are deeply blessed by the faithful service of the men and women who support the operational activities of First Pres ministry. In the midst of their detailed work, cleaning, repairing, printing, network management, paying our bills and countless tasks, Holy Spirit, fill them with the joy that comes from doing essential Kingdom work. As each generation confronts the issues and challenges unique to it, remind us that it is Your church, the bride of Christ, that sustains us and connects us over the years. Amen.
