“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine…” ~ Song of Songs 6:3 ~ We have been witnessing a pretty remarkable week here in America! We saw the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States of America. It took place once again without an armed coup or uprising. No other country in our world today can make that claim. Our Constitution has served us very well since 1776. I am so glad to be able to call the U.S.A. home.

But in the process of living out this first week of a new administration, there have been protest marches. Most happened the day following the inauguration. Across the country in many cities -– including next door in Prescott, women and men came to display their displeasure with our new administration. These protest marches were for women’s rights we were told. It was hard to tell exactly what the demands were in most places. These marches turned out to be pretty much “come and protest about anything you feel needs to be expressed” events. The great thing about the rallies is the fact that all those participating had the right to do so. They were allowed to make their voices heard. Even with a new administration in the White House, their freedom to speak is still protected. On the other hand, it was those who are anything but the average American woman who had the major platform in Washington. It is their stated goal to bring “clarity” to the most important women’s issues of our day. We were told that those issues revolve around abortion on demand. Women who are professing to stand for the rights of women, demand that we allow unborn women (and men) to be murdered at any point during pregnancy. This, on the anniversary weekend of the infamous Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court Decision. Also in demand is the right to be married to anyone you may choose – at these protest marches, that is defined as same-sex marriage. I fear these issues are not going away anytime soon. Our teens and children are growing up in a much different world today than any previous generations have. We owe it to them to continue to fight these causes.

God cares deeply about these issues. They go to the very sanctity of life and to the deep love that our Heavenly Father has for us. It is His design that marriage be between one man and one woman for one life-time. We saw last week in our Worship Services that God’s plan is for a man to leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. Remember, that word “cleave” means “glue” in the Hebrew language. I used the phrase that married couples are to be “gorilla glued” to each other. That provides love and safety for both men, women and children. In that type of relationship, we can echo the words found in the Song of Songs – the book of Song of Solomon – that I am indeed my beloved and my beloved is mine. Barbara and I are today (Thursday as I write this) celebrating 43 years of marriage. Those years have brought enormous joy into our lives. The birth of 3 children. The birth of 7 grandchildren with one on the way in just a few short months. The joining of our lives into one, the uniting our hearts with each other’s families. Sharing in life – and death – in those families. Dealing with major health issues and seeing God work miracles that only He can do. God has allowed Barbara and I to be united in ministry together for all 43 of those years. Many of you will remember that I told you in calling me to be your Senior Pastor, the best part of the deal would be getting Barbara as your pastor’s wife! The blessing of God’s plan for marriage, for family, for holiness, is that not one time have Barbara and I desired or needed to put any vulgarity on display to feel justified in our lifestyle. When you choose to follow God’s plan – righteousness and holiness are already on display. If I am to boast in anything, it will be to boast in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Will that make the majority of people in our culture happy? Not even close. It will, however, always please our Savior. One man – one woman – one life-time. Now that’s “clarity”! Blessings on your week as you seek to glorify God in your lifestyle. Let’s do all we can to make sure that is always of priority! Pastor Terrell P.S. Please make sure to take note of the many opportunities listed in this edition of CONNECTIONS. They will afford you several chances to engage with our community in positive ways. Try to decide how God can use you to advance His Kingdom – because that’s exactly what He wants to do!

Happy New Year church family! I am super excited for January because it is a time to begin getting ready for summer camp. We will be heading to Glorietta in New Mexico again this year; this is a place that has a lot of wonderful memories for us all. Not only that, this camp has a well-polished program that has connected with our student ministry. This year’s theme is “Convergence” and the key verse for this year’s camp is Psalm 25: 4-5 “Make your ways known to me, Lord; teach me Your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; I wait for You all day long.” If your student who will have completed 6th grade in May or is in grades 7-12, they are welcome to come with us. The cost for the camp is $285.00 and the dates are June 20-24. There is a $50 deposit that will be due by February 1st; the remainder of the cost will be fundraised. Space is limited so get your deposit in soon.

Our first fundraiser for camp is this Sunday the 29th. It is a chili cook off, and if you would like to enter a chili for the contest please bring it in. We appreciate you all for bringing in your chili every year and for your continued financial support of your youth ministry, there is a $5 donation asked of you at the door of the fellowship hall. If you are attending camp, and you need to raise some money please be at the church by 12:00. On another note, our students have begun to assist the AWANA program wherever they need us to serve. It has been a very positive experience for the older students for sure. They ask me every week if they can go and help again. Please continue to pray for our student ministry as we continue to learn about God and the Bible and serve each other. In Christ, Don Gagnon
