“Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” ~ Titus 2:2-8 ~ A little bit longer Scripture passage than usual. I’m going to let the Apostle Paul do the bulk of the talking today. Let me encourage you to read those verses again before reading on. I do, however, want you to notice that Paul is talking about living with “INTEGRITY” in these verses. It’s what we most want in others, and what we often most overlook in ourselves. Integrity. The word means “the state of being whole.” We tend to equate it with being dependable, consistent, trustworthy, and good. People of integrity not only do what they say they will do, they do what’s right to do — and, they take delight in it. This Sunday morning I am beginning a new sermon series that is designed to help believers move more consistently in the direction of integrity in all areas of life. The three messages in this series will challenge you to get serious in several areas: about your relationship with God, your relationship to Scripture, how you choose to define yourself, and how you determine your priorities. Today, let me encourage all of us at FSBCPV to see that integrity must also be the basis of how we live together as a church. Paul is describing an extended family to young Pastor Titus. He points out that the way we relate to our own families with integrity — doing the right thing for the right reason, and finding delight in it — is the exact way we are to relate to each other in the church. After all, we are God’s family!

Just a couple of ways that plays out in “real” church life. First: What we say we believe about Jesus, salvation, the Bible, morality, ethics, love — and countless other major and minor areas of beliefs and life — must line up with how we “love” and “serve with” one another at church. Integrity allows no variance in these areas. The world is happy to point out where we have disconnects between stated beliefs and how we actually live. Second: We must constantly strive to live out our church life as family members. We must relate to each other on the basis of family relationships. Some are old in years and some are just babies. Some are old in faith and some are brand new. Integrity at home means we acknowledge our position and the position of others — and that we give due respect. The same must be said of us in church family life. We say we believe in evangelism and disciple-making. Integrity means that we organize our resources to see that happen. Sometimes that makes us uncomfortable. They cost time, money and energy. They may even cost what we may consider to be our own security. They definitely take us out of the known into the uncertain! But when we venture in — when we engage — we find delight! An old building coming down for a new one. Old schedules coming down for new ones. Old procedures out for new. Time. Money. Energy. Unknowns. Uncomfortable... for a time. That will be our church life for awhile. It is, however, the way we will live before our community with integrity. It will tell our neighbors — and show them — that what we say we believe is how we are willing to live! One thing most of us have figured out by now is that life is never static. It is always moving — always changing. It travels through seasons. Those seasons each have their challenges, but they each have a purpose. Our option is always to engage whatever season we are in and find the delight. After all, a life that is only static is no life at all. It is dead! I’m glad FSBCPV is not static. God gives us life. He gives us love. He gives us family. He gives us delight! Let’s engage them with integrity! Blessings on your week as you weigh what you say against what you do. It’s the only way to be a person of integrity. Ditto for the church! Pastor Terrell

2 + 2 Schedule

A few classroom changes have been made. Please check out the new schedule form and make sure you know where and what session your class is in. Thank you! We are still in need of someone to be our Food Service/Kitchen Volunteer Manager. Faye Ricketts has done a marvelous job over the last several years! We really appreciate her. However, she would like to take a break and serve the Lord in another capacity. She will work with you and help you get started. If you would like to be this person or even talk to me about what all is involved, please contact me @ 928-830-9934. Sincerely in Christ, Pastor Frank
