“Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’ When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.” ~ Matthew 19:13-15 ~ It happened again! This “again” is not a happy again. Rather, the news was reported this week that a man was arrested for suspected child molestation — not all that far from us. In this case, the suspect was the Youth Pastor of his church. I pray it did not really happen — but we all know that it very well might have. Last week, it was a small plane that crashed into a residential neighborhood in the Valley. A young family man and his daughters on the plane died. Yesterday, it was a truck that crashed through a Peoria home. Fortunately no one was injured in the home and the driver survived. SECURITY — seems to be the watchword of our culture today. Just google that word and see all of the pages that will come up. You would never get through reading them. The simple definition of the word security is: “The state of being free from danger or threat.” Yet look at all of the cries for security we hear each day: Homeland Security, Social Security, Financial Security, Home Security, Personal Security, Banking Security, Military Security, Armored Security, Security Guards, School Security, Computer Network Security, and on and on it goes! Why those cries for security? Because of the realities of the world we live in. The daily headlines read: Terrorist threats or attacks — Armed robbery — Home invasions — Elder abuse — Child abuse — Identity theft, and on and on. We long for security. We desperately long for safety! Abraham Maslow came up with a hierarchy of human needs back in 1954. However, the reality of the needs were not new. They have been ours since the garden of Eden. The base level of needs are Physiological Needs. Things like air, food and water. We don’t live without them.

The second level of needs are what Maslow called Safety Needs. Things like security of your body, family, health, resources, employment, morality. When those are threatened or taken away, we struggle to go on. That is where the national cry for security comes from today. Let’s be honest. Some of those things we can help to protect. Some we can’t. So, we sleep behind locked doors at night. We buy insurance. Detroit adds more safety features to our cars. We walk through scanners at airports and government buildings. We no longer have open campuses at schools. We take security seriously these days. To that end, we take it seriously here at FSBCPV. We “buzz” people into our church office on weekdays. We bond those who handle our offerings. We do background checks on every adult who works with children and youth. And, beginning this weekend, we will have electronic check-in and check-out for our babies and children. This adds a layer of security for the children and their parents. Jesus did not want children to be separated from Him. He wanted them to come to Him. Parents brought their children to Jesus — and His disciples tried to hinder them. In today’s world, parents are afraid of the dangers in our society, and will choose not to bring their children without the assurance of adequate security. So, we try to meet that need however we can. However, for the ultimate need of security we all have — Jesus alone, deals with it. He gives us ETERNAL SECURITY. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.” ~ John 10:27-29 ~ Our salvation comes with a “double-lock” iron-clad guarantee. Purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ and sealed in His hand by the Holy Spirit — then locked once again in the hand of the Heavenly Father. Now that’s security! Today, if you do not have that spiritual need met in your life, I want to encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity. Confess your sin and need of salvation and receive it today! By the way, the third level of needs that Maslow identified are Love and Belonging Needs. That means Jesus not only meets all your first two levels of needs, but in providing your salvation, He meets your need for pure love. And when He saves you, you belong to Him forever as a part of His family. Now that is SECURITY! Blessings on your week as you come to appreciate all that Jesus provides for you in your salvation. It’s quite a deal!

Hello church family and welcome to the wonderful allergy-filled time of year known as spring. With the end of winter your youth ministry will be taking a look at the importance and personal impact the true Easter story has for each of us and our friends. We will be looking at the simplicity of the gospel, the truth of our sinful nature, and the lengths God has gone to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to escape an eternity without Him. Please continue to pray for the youth ministry that God’s word, truth and love will be made clear and responded to each and every week. As spring arrives, we will also be publishing a “youth for hire directory. This is where you can find names and numbers of those going to camp. You can hire one or more for help with yard work, landscaping, painting etc. The opportunity to serve you and your needs in the yard and around the house is appreciated and will help send students to camp. In addition, later on in the spring, we will be asking for donations

for a yard sale to be held in May. So begin to think about how we can help you with your spring cleaning and please consider allowing us to sell it for you. More information on that will be coming out soon. Thank you so much church family for your continued support! In Christ, Don Gagnon Minister to youth Romans 1:16
