“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Blessed is the king of Israel!’” ~ John 12:13 ~ fickle: adj. [deceitful, inconsistent: akin to hostile or at foe] marked by erratic changeableness especially in affections It must have been a wonderful Sunday as Jesus and His followers entered into the city of Jerusalem. Imagine the excitement as the crowds shouted “Hosanna!” and placed palm branches and cloaks in front of the donkey He rode. I’m sure most of us wish we could have been there that day. However, as we fast-forward just five days, the crowds shouted something very different concerning this same Jesus, in the very same city of Jerusalem: “‘What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?’ Pilate asked. They all answered, ‘Crucify him!’” ~ Matthew 27:22 ~ Sounds pretty deceitful — or the very least, inconsistent! Talk about being erratic in affections. As I shared last Sunday morning, it may have been two different groups of people, or it may be that after seeing Jesus — after He had endured the beatings that came in the early morning hours of that Friday — that they simple decided He had nothing to offer. He was certainly not the king they expected or wanted. I doubt that any of us would have wanted to be among the crowd that day! However, in moments of complete self-honesty and transparency, we all know that it is possible that we could have been part of either crowd 2,000 years ago. We know how very fickle we can be — especially concerning Jesus. One of the tragic consequences of our broken sinful nature is that we are the most fickle in our affections toward those we care most about.

The result is that it is our spouses — our families — our closest friends — even our very Savior that must suffer the brunt. resolute: adj. marked by firm determination: bold, steady: faithful None of us gets a free-pass on this issue of fickleness. Because it is a sin issue, we are held accountable. We have great intentions. We love Jesus, but… We mean to worship Him with our fellow believers, but… We mean to read and join in Bible Study with other believers, but… We mean to give, but… We mean to share the Good News with others, but… But life happens! That’s our go to excuse as our affections toward Jesus change. But be sure of this — life didn’t change — we did. The answer to our dilemma is found in our resolve. Will we choose firm determination in our walk with Jesus in this sinful world? Will we choose faithfulness in our relationship with Him? Will we be bold when life is hard and the challenges to our faith come? I pray that my answer will be yes! I pray that your answer will also be yes! It can be for all of us. Jesus provides the way. Remember, it was He who resolutely faced the agony of the cross for us. ONE MAN — ONE CROSS — and a world that was CHANGED FOREVER! As we enter Holy Week, let’s choose to be resolute in our relationships with Christ and with others. Let’s choose to be resolute in our Worship and Bible Study. Let’s choose NOT to be fickle! Join us this Sunday morning as we focus on the The Cross and sit together at the Lord’s Table for Communion. Let’s all begin Holy Week with faithful worship! Blessings on your week as you choose to live resolved to faithfulness in worship and service to our King. Pastor Terrell P.S. Just a reminder, we will spend the seven weeks following Easter Sunday this year on A FORTY DAY JOURNEY — KNOWING JESUS. This is my personal invitation to join us on the journey! And don’t forget, it’s part two of The Jesus Film at 6 pm. — as we remember the last days of Jesus’ life as recorded in the Gospel of Luke.
