“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” ~ Matthew 10: 18-20 ~
This coming week is special in the life of Arizona Southern Baptists. Our national Annual Convention meets in Phoenix. This does not happen very often. It is a chance to remind ourselves of who we really are as Southern Baptists. Our descriptor is Great Commission Baptists. We came together in 1845 — and we continue together today — for the primary goal of reaching our world for Jesus Christ in a cooperative way. Today, we comprise the largest evangelistic missionary movement in the world. We are also the largest evangelistic denomination of churches in the world. Together, we are a part of reaching more people for Christ than any other group. That is something that we will be able to communicate to our state this week. This weekend, hundreds of mostly college and university students will be sharing the gospel message across the valley — on the streets, on campuses, in parks and anywhere else they can encounter people who need to hear the story of Jesus’ love. Sunday evening, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Harvest America will take place. Thousands will attend the live event and it will be simulcast to thousands of other locations across the nation and even around the world. Specialty sessions will be held on Monday at the Phoenix Convention Center with the two days of Convention meetings being held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make this a week of prayer for the lost of Arizona and the work of our Convention.
For those of you who were on target with A Forty Day Journey: KNOWING JESUS, congratulations! Day forty was yesterday (as I write this on Friday). As it has been since the beginning of our journey together, my prayer is that you have come to know Jesus in some new and exciting ways and that you have discovered some new — and perhaps challenging ways — to be a Christ follower. Blessings on your week — as many of you who faithfully volunteered in VBS this past week have a chance to relax a bit — and as you continue to follow the example that Jesus set for us: To do as He has done for you. Pastor Terrell
P.S. The Harvest America concert will include music from NEEDTOBREATHE, MercyMe, Jordin Sparks, Trip Lee, Phil Wickham and Brennley Brown. The Preconcert begins at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, don’t miss it!
Vacation Bible School is now history! Thank you for praying. At least one child received Jesus Christ as Savior this week. Another two are contemplating baptism. Thank you again to each one who made VBS a reality – nursery staff (for children of workers), decorators, snacks crew, sound and video team, recreation leaders, crafts team, skit persons, Pastor Terrell & the penny-drive counters/packagers, missions team, security personnel, music team, teachers, helpers and especially co-directors Sara Hudson and Jean Knapic. Upcoming Children’s Ministry Events: Junior Age (grades 3-6) summer camp, June 18-23, AWANA Clubs begin in August a couple of weeks after school starts. Taekwondo continues Monday & Thursday afternoons, 4:30-5:30 pm for kids 6-18. Good News Clubs are gearing up for the school year as well. Please pray for our Klagetoh trip in July where Native Americans representing 3-4 schools will be taught how to lead Good News Clubs. As well, upwards of 100+ Navajo people will come to some evangelistic messages. Thank you! Sincerely in Christ, Pastor Frank
