with Pastor Terrell “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” Philippians 1:3-5

Alex Haley, author of Roots, had a picture on his office wall of a turtle sitting on a fence post. He said the picture was there to remind him of an important lesson: If you see a turtle on a fence post, you know he had some help getting there.

Haley said, “Every time I’m tempted to think, ‘Aren’t I marvelous? Look at all I’ve accomplished!’ I look at that picture and remember how this turtle — me — got up on that post.” PASTORAL STAFF

This is a good time of the year to take the time to say thank you to the ones — and, specifically, the One — who helped you make it to the top of the post. Obviously, we begin by giving thanks to the Father for all that he has done. But let’s not forget also to say thanks to those who play a part in bringing His goodness our way.

Terrell Eldreth, Senior Pastor Scott Terry, Worship Pastor

My most favorite song to sing is “Thank You.” I hope to sing it one Sunday morning in November in one of our worship services. It always causes me to remember those who have had a major roll in my life — whether they knew their impact on me or not. It reminds me to try to say thank you to those I am still able to. To those I cannot because many have already gone to be with the Lord, I look forward to saying “thank you” to them in heaven someday. Until then, I try to live with an attitude of gratitude, being reminded of their love and generosity to me that brought me to where I am today.

OFFICE CONTACT & HOURS

Their names and occupations are many and varied. Their impact on my life was diverse. From elementary school teachers and administrators, Jr. High School (I know, I know. I predate today’s Middle School phenonium) music teachers and athletic coaches who challenged me to do more than I thought I was able to accomplish, to college and seminary professors who stretched me academically and spiritually, to fellow pastors who have held me accountable, to members of the church I grew up in and the churches I have been blessed to serve as pastor, I am extremely grateful. God had used each in remarkable ways in my life.

Even more important is the family God has given me. Barbara, my wife of nearly 45 years, is my source of continual love and inspiration. Three kids and eight grandkids, Christian parents and siblings — so much to be thankful for. God is indeed gracious! None of us gets to the top of the fence post alone. We all need help — and all of you are helpers. There are those who are on the fence post because of your help. So, who have you helped lately? I know one you have — me. Although you took time this month, and particularly last Sunday with Pastor Appreciation Day as you demonstrated your love and appreciation in gracious and generous ways — Barbara and I know that we are appreciated every day by our First Southern church family. You all fill our lives with Christ’ love in far more ways than you can imagine. I am deeply thankful that God brought Barbara and I here to Prescott Valley. Thank you so very much for all you mean to us! So, who are those in your life that have helped you to the top of the fence post? They are there, you may just have to take some time to remember. If possible, say “thank you” to them and then choose to live with an attitude of gratitude. Blessings on your week as consider your own journey up the fence post — and I am looking forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday. Pastor Terrell P.S. By the way, the turtle-on-the-post illustration has been spun countless ways; I just happen to like Haley’s the best. We will be showing a new movie based on the life and ministry of Rev. Billy Graham. It called EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY and is due to be released to public later in November. We will be showing an advance screening in our Worship Center on Sunday evening, November 4th at 6:00 P.M., so invite anyone and everyone to attend!
