When I read the words of this song I’m reminded of the words of Psalm 33:12, I remember that God’s desire is to be our God. If we still honor Him as God then He will be our God. However, we can get into some serious trouble when we don’t allow God to be our God. Can you imagine what America would be like without God as God? It would be one hellish place — full of chaos — no law — no love!

In God we trust. Is this true? Is this true for most of the American people? Unfortunately, not so much. For most, God is not their God. Anything and everything has become the god of many Americans. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~ Matthew 6:33 ~ Today, as never before, we must trust God to be our God and not anything or anyone else. We must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness if we expect Him to be our God. God doesn’t ever change His stand on that!

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.” ~ Psalm 33:12 ~ Diamond Rio is an American and Christian Country band that began in 1982, singing at Opryland USA in Nashville. They are still going strong today. Their first hit was “Meet in the Middle.” Another of their songs is called “In God We Still Trust.” The words of this song are relevant on our nation’s 243rd birthday this coming Thursday, on July 4th. “IN GOD WE STILL TRUST” “Place your hand on His Bible, when you swear to tell the truth. His name is on our greatest monuments and all our money too. And when we pledge allegiance, there’s no doubt where we stand: There’s no separation, we’re one nation under Him.

In God, we still trust here in America, He’s the One we turn to every time the going gets rough. He is the source of all our strength, the One who watches over us. Here in America, in God, we still trust. Now there are those among us, who wanna push Him out. And erase His name from everything, this country’s all about. From the schoolhouse to the courthouse, They’re silencing His word, An’ now it’s time for all believers, to make our voices heard. In God, we still trust here in America, He’s the One we turn to every time the goin’ gets rough. He is the source of all our strength, the One who watches over us. Here in America, in God, we still trust.” …continued
God gives to us certain blessings — “all these things” — as rewards, mainly because of our relationship with Jesus Christ — because we are in Christ! All of the security most American’s chase after apart from God, He gives to us when we allow Him to still be our God. And, of course, the greatest reward of all is eternal life! We still trust God to save us in Christ! Let’s be an example of all that it means to “still” trust in God to our families, community and country. They need to see it. God Bless you as you still trust in God this week — and Happy Birthday America! Pastor Terrell P.S. I really love America and cannot imagine living anywhere else. However, it came to my attention this morning that the average per capita ice cream consumed per year in America is 5.5 gallons. Not bad, but it puts us in second place. #1 — New Zealand at 7.5 gallons of ice cream. They must have awesome After-Church Ice Cream Socials!
