“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”~ Matthew 28:18-20~ A few (seemingly) random thoughts for the week — Our new tree Barbara and I are finally getting our yards under control — after way too many months! We just added a new rock and a new tree. Well, at least they called it a tree at the nursery. To me, it just looks like a big stick! It’s a “Fruitless Plum” tree I’m told — at least that part seems true. I don’t see a single plum anywhere on it! Of course, it could be named a “Leafless” tree right now. Not too many leaves are on it either. I’ll be glad for the spring to come when we should be able to enjoy all of the new pink blooms on this tree. We’ll just have to keep watering it and wait for now! The Great Commission. Most of us in the church learned these verses very early on in our Christian life. Along with the Great Commandment — they are our marching orders. Spoken by Jesus immediately before He ascended into heaven to the Father, He clearly stated the mission of the church. We get it. We are to “Go” into all of world with the Gospel — the Good News of Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers to everyone. We get it — but really? Exactly how is one church — our church — as wonderful and committed to Christ as we are supposed to go everywhere? Seems overwhelming. Besides, the majority of people we tell the story to don’t seem all that interested.

The reality is, no single church can do it all — but no single church is expected to! The greatest part of serving Christ as Southern Baptist is our cooperative spirit. We work together to reach our world. We cooperate together here in Prescott Valley, in Yavapai County, in Arizona, in the United States and quite literally — around the globe to spread the Good News. In fact, as soon as I finish writing this blog, Barbara and I will be leaving to attend the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention. There we will learn what is being accomplished already and plan together with churches all over our state on how to do even more. It's slow work. Sometimes like my new tree, it seems like all we are doing is just putting a stick in the ground and pouring water on it. But when together we keep at it, the spring does come and the beautiful blooms of new believers break out and new fruit is produced! Veteran’s Day. We had a great time this past Sunday morning here at FSBCPV as we recognized the veterans among us. We were able to show our appreciation to almost 40 men and women who were with us. Some served in WWII — some in Korea — many in Viet Nam — some in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some were peace-time soldiers and some are still serving today. To you who served us so well, we again thank you for the sacrifices you made on our behalf. You are indeed a special breed of men and women I ask you to continue to be in prayer for our veterans, many of whom struggle daily with the repercussions of their service. And remember, we still have many who are in harms way even today. They deserve our diligence in prayer. Blessings on your week as we work together to reach our community and our world for Jesus Christ. After all — that is our calling — so keep on watering! Pastor Terrell P.S. Speaking of calling. It was just two short years ago when Barbara and I first spoke with the Pastor Search Team of FSBCPV — without a doubt, one of the most important phone calls we have ever had the blessing of being a part of. Thank you for your call on our lives and ministry.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is to let you know that calendars for 2017 have arrived. They are on sale now both wall and pocket sized calendars. The pocket size is $6 and the wall sizes are $7 this is a fundraiser for our students to earn money toward their summer camp. I want to also say thank you to this church family for always supporting our student ministry with the purchase of these calendars and with your prayer support. Speaking of camp, the dates for camp are June 20-24 and are a total cost of $305 per student. A sign up list will be started in January and a $50 deposit will be due by February 1st. Your student can begin to fundraise now with the sale of these calendars so that they will have a good start toward their total cost by the time we begin in earnest in the spring. Coming up on November 30th, our youth will have a game night. This is an opportunity for our students to invite their friends to come to our church group to build relationships without feeling like they are judged or preached to. Please invite students to come and pray for the relationships we will build. On December 14th, we will have our annual Christmas party and white elephant gift exchange. This is another opportunity to meet unchurched friends and make a connection. Please continue to pray for the student ministry and the relationships that are made each week. Our students are in need of lots of prayer as they often struggle with family issues, self-esteem and anxiety of life. Each week, we try to share God’s love and truth with hope through Biblical teaching and training. Thank you church family! Don Gagnon, Minister to youth
