“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” ~ Isaiah 55:12 (NIV) ~ TREASURING CHRISTMAS In the Christmas story, I like how Luke used the word “treasure.” “All who heard the shepherds’ story expressed astonishment, but Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and often thought about them.” ~ Luke 2:18-19 (TLB) ~ The King James says, “But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.” It means that year after year she thought about the events leading to the first Christmas — how she was chosen to participate in God’s story of salvation. How God brought everything together. How she witnessed firsthand that — like the angel had said to her many months before — “Nothing is impossible for God.” (Luke 1:37) Mary’s example is good one to follow. We should remember to treasure these things and think about them often. There are so many lessons to be learned from the nativity story. continued

● From the wisemen we learn that God speaks to anyone who will listen, and he leads anyone who is willing to follow. ● From Mary and Joseph, we learn what it means to fully submit to the will of God. We learn that obedience takes courage, and that it’s better to obey God than worry about what others think or say. ● From the shepherds — those minimum wage workers who were watching sheep late in the night — we learn that no one is too poor or too insignificant to have a personal experience with God. ● Even from cruel Herod, we are reminded of how foolish it is to try to hinder the purpose of God. Most of all, from Jesus, we learn…

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16 (NIV) ~

Christmas Party

I’m looking forward to seeing you this coming Sunday for In-Person or Online Worship. This week I will continue my new Christmas sermon series: SING WE NOW OF CHRISTMAS. In this series of sermons, we are taking a closer look at some favorite Christmas songs — and the message they offer the world. In these familiar carols we are being reminded of the miracle of God’s presence in our lives — as proclaimed in the message of Advent Season. This Sunday will look at Joy to the World: Learning to Walk with God Each Day. Pastor Terrell

To help all of us to move through the Christmas season this year — through all the busyness and noise — join me in an Advent Devotional Reading Challenge in YouVersion. I have chosen the 23-day devotion: LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS. We began reading last Sunday and will continue reading through Christmas Day. However, it’s not too late for you to begin. If you are already using YouVersion on your smartphone, tablet or computer — give me a friend request and I will send you the link. Not on YouVersion? CRU, the writer of this devotion, will send you a daily pdf file to your email or a text message at no cost to you. However, I would encourage you to download the YouVersion app — it’s also free — but so worthwhile!
