THAT ALL MAY HEAR!!

We’ve been hearing a lot about that recently. We are in desperate need of replacing our entire sound system. Wiring, speakers, amplifiers, microphones, mixer, CD player, DVD player, everything is very old. Although we hear somewhat ok, I can see the time coming when we won’t hear at all. The system needs to be replaced before anything gives out completely. It is most important that we hear from the Lord every time we come together, and it is important that God hears our praises to Him. We don’t just need a good sound system, we need the best, because God deserves our best in all that we do. Our worship of Him is of supreme importance, and “sound” is a big part of the success of our worship.

As far back as God has allowed us to look into eternity past, we find worship. Even before He created our world there was worship. In fact, it was over worship that the archangel Lucifer led his rebellion in heaven when he tried to overthrow the throne (Isaiah 14:12-14). The attempt was made so that Lucifer could be the object of heaven’s worship. They were, of course, defeated and cast out of heaven, but the attempt to dethrone God did not end there. From that point on, Satan and his demons have been working to secure the worship of God’s creation. THAT is at the heart of the conflict Satan has with God. He is fighting for the allegiance, or the worship, of humankind. He will ultimately lose, but he has had many victories even to our present day. In the very act of creation itself, God was expressing His love. He created Adam and Eve for Himself, and He gave them all that they would ever need. Not one thing was missing, and everything He provided was perfect. Adam and Eve, in turn, were to love God, commune with Him, worship Him, and enjoy Him forever!

Have you observed the fact that God has placed into human nature the need and the desire to worship? Think about it. If we were to go to the most remote area on earth and watch the

most primitive tribe, we would find those people worshiping some god or gods. Why? The answer is simply that this is the way God created us. Every one of us is a worshiper of something or someone. That which is most important to us, that which we value the most, is the object of our worship, and it is to that (or that one) we will bow, giving our allegiance, our interest, our time, and our affection, and our resources. (money) Jesus said: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6:21).

Worship is the response of an adoring heart to the magnificence of God. In the highest sense of the word, it is the occupation of the created with the Creator Himself. It is the pure joy of magnifying the One whose name is above every other name.

Nothing is higher on God’s agenda for Himself and for His people than true worship. Being willing to read or hear about worship, but not willing to have an active involvement in true worship is no different from our saying that we are ready to offer our Isaac on the altar while not being willing to act on it. To God, worship is so vital that to fail to experience genuine worship is fatal. Yet it is possible to go through life thinking we have worshiped without ever having done so. Knowing God’s standards and responding in loving obedience is of fundamental importance, because lives are then transformed. It is in true worship that God responds to what we have done, according to His pattern. God reveals and sets the standard, and His work is accomplished in the life of the worshiper and the worshiper responds to what God has required. Genuine worship is always transformational, but we cannot transform our own lives. That is God’s work. This amazing transformation comes preeminently in worship.

More than a few sermons could expand on the above, and many, many books have been written. We work every week to bring together music, Scripture, prayers, and messages to help us all to engage in the worship of God. Being able to hear well, so that our thoughts are not interrupted by thinking about whether or not we heard what was said or sung, is very important to the success of our worship experience.

The goal of “That All My Hear” is not small, but I believe God has placed the resources to complete it within His people here in our church. Let’s complete this for God’s glory! He has promised: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)
