WHY PRAY?

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said…

“… your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” ~ Matthew 6:8 (NIV) ~

We have no reason to doubt that claim. So, if God already knows our needs, why pray? Perhaps that has even kept you from praying but in reality it should make us pray more.

Billy Graham answered this question.

“If you are a parent, do you discourage your children from coming to you with their requests even if you already know what they want? No, of course not. You love them, and you take delight in listening to them. Even if you say no to their requests, it’s because you know better than they do what is best for them.”

God, our heavenly Father, loves us, His children and one of our greatest privileges is coming to Him in prayer. So, today we pray.

As this newsletter goes out today, it is May 2nd. That makes today our National Day of Prayer. We will be joining in prayer during our Thursday evening Bible Study this evening and I hope you choose to join with us if you are receiving this in your email today. We will pray and we will study some of the Revelation together at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

If you cannot get here for this evening, or if you are getting this after today, you will find the Prayer Guide on the following page. I do hope you will pray.

You showed favor to your land, O Lord; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. ~ Psalm 85:1-2 (NIV) ~

If God did it then He can be trusted to do it now! Let’s have the faith to ask.

Blessings on your week. We have so much to pray for in regard to our nation and our world. Please don’t neglect this great gift of talking about it with our heavenly Father. I am looking forward to seeing you this Sunday as I continue my Sermon Series The Business of Living. We will look this weekend at getting First Things First Spoiler alert: the first thing is prayer!
