“I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs.” ~ Psalm 101:1 (NLT) ~
HERE I STAND
As we approach the month of July, Independence Day is just a week away as I write this. More on the importance of that day in the life of our nation and on our personal lives is sure to follow in my post next week. But for today, my thoughts are on a slightly different emphasis.
Where do I stand in relation to my God, my family, my church, my integrity? Do I know that God has given me a purpose for my life, and if so, do I know what it is and how to express it to others?
To that end, I will be preaching on those topics in July by concentrating on just one short chapter written by King David in the book of Psalms. In eight short verses, David shares is own Declaration of Purpose by which he ultimately chose to live his life.
Why? Why would David do this? He was a powerful King. He was extremely powerful. He was extremely rich. Who would or could call him out no matter how he might choose to live his life.
Yet for David, none of that was the point. What he had or didn’t have really did not matter when it came to his life purpose and he knew that without some strategic thinking and action, he would never be able to stay on track.
David’s goal was to live an authenticate lifestyle. So, he wrote out eight short verses that contained twelve “I Will” actions he was committed to.
Psalm 101 (NLT)
1. I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs.
2. I will be careful to live a blameless life when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.
3. I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.
4. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.
5. I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride.
6. I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.
7. I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence.
8. My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.
Blessings on your week. Why not work on where you stand? Do so by working on your own steps leading toward living an authentic lifestyle? You can begin the process by spending some time looking more closely at Psalm 101 and then making a commitment to attend worship each Sunday of July.
I do look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we begin this new Sermon Series I am calling AUTHENTIC LIFESTYLE: King David and the Message of Psalm 101. This Sunday we will begin by looking at ADeclaration of Purpose.
