“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”
~ Proverbs 14:34 (NIV) ~
INDEPENDENCE DAY
I know this will not be new to some of you, but I’m going back in time a couple of years to repost this to you. I feel that today, it is more important than ever to read again.
This Thursday (the day this will go out via e-mail) we celebrate our nation’s ‘Independence Day.’ It all began on July 4th, 1776, when 56 brave men signed a document known as ‘The Declaration of Independence.’For these men to sign such a document and press on with this kind of revolution came at great personal cost.
• Five were captured and tortured by the British before they died.
• Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned to the ground.
• Two lost their sons in the war.
• One had two sons captured.
• Nine fought and died from wounds or the hardships of the war.
• Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British navy. He sold his home to pay his debts and died in rags.
• Thomas McKean was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in Congress without pay and he died a very poor man.
• Thomas Nelson’s home was seized by the British at the Battle of Yorktown and used as a command post. He urged General George Washington to open fire on it. The home was destroyed and Nelson died bankrupt.
LIBERTY HASALWAYS EXACTEDAPRICE. That’s what the 4th of July is all about remembering the high price that was paid for our freedoms.
Greece built a civilization on culture and it failed. Rome built its civilization on power and it crumbled. But our forefathers founded our nation on godly principles and America will live on as long as the Lord is her God.
Did you know that the picture of Moses was on the first coin minted in America?
Do you recall the picture of Washington at Valley Forge? His little army was starving and freezing to death. Everything that they held dear was at stake. They were fighting against seemingly insurmountable odds but out in the snow George Washington was down on his knees, praying.
THAT IS THE SPIRIT THAT BUILTAMERICA!
You may be saying, well, “WHAT CAN I DO?”
Let me share three quick answers to your question:
1. The best thing you and I can do forAmerica is to give her a good Christian life. Be light and salt. Bloom where God has planted you. God will see your life and will use it to bless our nation.
2. You can pray for a national revival. God is at work. You can pray for our president and politicians on every level. Liking or disliking the president is not the issue. God allows our politicians to serve so that they can serve the common good. He commands us to honestly pray for them, so pray we must. Pray before we vote pray before we tweet pray before we post pray before we rant pray from a Spirit filled heart.
3. You can depend on God as your true Source of liberty, courage, and spiritual power.America’s hope has never been in our politics. God is and always has been our only real strength. Every problem and issue in society has only one real answer and that is the gospel. Our greatest privilege and responsibility is to help provide the “gospel solution” to the issues of life and culture. That means we are not the agitators in culture. We are the transformers of culture. We can help our families, friends and neighbors see that God is not defined by culture. It is He who defines terms such as life, righteousness, sin, truth, freedom, liberty, justice and equality.
Blessings on your 4th of July celebrations and don’t forget our Celebration of Freedom this Sunday as we hold our annual Red, White and Blue (Jeans) Sunday.

P.S. For those of you who are wondering as of last Sunday’s Offerings we now stand at just over the ¾ mark in reaching our final goal for “That All May Hear.” That is an outstanding accomplishment to have achieved in only 3 months! I believe we can finish off this offering goal by the end of July. Will you join me in praying and giving to that end?
