“This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…”
~ Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NIV) ~
The most important decisions you make are the decisions you make every day. Much more so than the one-time decisions even the big ones.
For example, getting married is a major one-time decision. And the decision you make today to love your wife today as Christ loved the church is in many ways more important.
Choosing a career path or taking a job is a major one-time decision. And the decision you make today to do your work as unto the Lord today is a more important still.
Giving your life to Christ is the greatest one-time decision you’ll ever make. Even greater is the decision you make today to follow Him today.
How many times do we decide each day?According to the numbers I’ve seen, somewhere between 5,000 and 35,000 ACornell study says we make more than 200 daily decisions about food alone. (Ok, that 200 number might be a little low, but we’ll just go with it for now!)
Most decisions are made on auto-pilot. The best ones, however, need to be made intentionally, because our daily decisions give those big one-time decisions the meaning they deserve or they take away their meaning all together.
Today you will decide thousands and thousands and thousands of times what to do with your time, what to eat, what to read, what to buy, what to wear, who to hang-out with, what to talk about, what to think about, and then what to give a second thought about.
Today you’ll also decide how you’ll speak to the ones you love, how you’ll do your job, how you’ll live out your purpose and many other things that will matter forever. So before you let habit kick in, give yourself a second to think about what this decision means and where it will take you.As we discussed in Bible Study this past Thursday evening, Jesus never let circumstances or worry rush His decisions. He always waited on the Father and then acted with purpose. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” ~ Psalm 27:14 (NIV) ~
There is certainly much to be gained when we take the time to wait on the Lord before making many of those decisions that we have put on autopilot over the years. It may require more time, some reorganizing of priorities, and perhaps some confession of laziness on our part but imagine all to be gained. Living with purpose on purpose. Loving your family with a newly refreshed or revived love. Serving God in new and exciting ways and places and so much more. It will be worth the effort!
Blessings on your week. Let me encourage you to take time to prayerfully make a few of those thousands of decisions each day. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday in worship as we conclude our journey through IMMERSE: BEGINNINGS. This Sunday I will share ACrash Course on Life.

P.S. Speaking of decisions we have now completed our $135,000 “ThatAll May Hear” goal. In fact, we not only completed our goal, but as of this past Sunday, we exceeded our goal with a grand total of $137,787.44. WHAT A GREAT GOD WE HAVE! The contract has now been awarded, and the new sound equipment has been ordered. Now we wait until it all arrives, and the installation begins. This is all made possible because of God’s faithfulness and your faithful giving. You are an awesome family!
