“Think about those times of your first love (how different now!) and turn back to me again and work as you did before.” ~ Revelation 2:5 (TLB) ~ Back in the day of Windows XP Operating Systems for our computers, I had some computer problems. You know the kind I’m talking about: some programs wouldn’t open properly, some wouldn’t close properly, and in the middle of my work I kept getting what is affectionately called the blue screen of death. I ran all of the utilities that are supposed to isolate and repair such problems, but none of them did the job. My system remained unstable. Unlike the computer techs we have available now here in the office — I was pretty much on my own trying to figure out the problem. I think this was pre-Geek Squad at that time! Finally, I had to do what is called a “System Restore.” I don’t know if our new Windows Operating System still has that application — but I was sure glad they did at that time. Windows created checkpoints for this very purpose every couple of days; it was designed to get your computer back on track. I asked myself, “When did my computer stop working properly?” I selected a checkpoint before that time frame and let XP return my computer to its proper place. Amazingly, the problems disappeared.

Offerings and Connection Cards will be collected in the Offering Boxes located just inside the two main entrances into our Worship Center.

You may find that you need to do a “Spiritual Life System Restore” on occasion. There are times we get off track. We lose sight of our purpose. We become complacent. We allow sin to creep in. And the system of our daily lives becomes unstable. continued

There’s a way to get back on track: “Think about those times of your first love.. and turn back to God and work as you did before.” When my life gets out of balance, I can look back and locate a time and place when things were the way they’re supposed to be. What was I doing then that I’m not doing now? The answer to this question usually identifies the problem, and it is nearly always related to the basics: walking in fellowship with Jesus, reading the Word, spending time in prayer, living in a right relationship with others. We’re not immune to getting off track; we just need to make sure that we’re establishing checkpoints along the path so that we can allow God to restore us to the right place when we lose our way. Guess what, the same is true for any local church. Afterall, Revelation 2:5 was addressed to a local church. This is what our Refocus is all about. Remembering our purpose and making sure our systems here at First Southern are working to keep us on track. Let’s remember that our Purpose today is…
