Here’s a Bad Dad joke for you … Do dolphins ever do anything by accident? NO, EVERTHING’S ON PORPOISE. I told you it was going to be bad! But there is a shred of truth there I want you to notice. It’s the truth — or as we have been saying this month in Worship — The Rhythm of Purpose. Screen writer and director Josh Olson said... You cannot discourage a writer. If someone can talk you out of being a writer, you’re not a writer. If I can talk you out of being a writer, I’ve done you a favor, because now you’ll be free to pursue your real talent, whatever that may be. And, for the record, everybody has one. The lucky ones figure out what that is. Maybe lucky isn’t the best way to describe it, but those who do figure out their real talent (which can also be described as their life’s purpose) certainly live better and accomplish more. Jesus identified his purpose with the statement,

“I came to seek and save what was lost.” ~ Luke 19:10 ~ Paul said it this way... “My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” ~ Colossians 2:2-3 ~ continued

In other words, his purpose (in this context) was to help people discover the fullness of life in Christ. And, history shows, he wasn’t easily dissuaded. Essential to finding your purpose is to identify that thing — or that short list of things — that no one can talk you out of: believer, pastor, leader, servant, writer, teacher, architect, entrepreneur, salesman, missionary, etc. You’ve most likely heard, “There are two great moments in a person’s life: the moment you were born and the moment you realize why you were born.” However, as true as that may be, too many Christians never come to that place in their lives where they really know and embrace God’s purpose for their lives. Frederick Buechner once said: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

This Sunday we will looking at how we can discover and facilitate that unique God-given purpose in each of our lives. Blessings on your week as you give thought to God’s purpose for your life — and how you will live it out. I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday. Pastor Terrell P.S. We will have a Called Business Meeting, immediately following our Morning Worship Service on Sunday, November 29, 2020. This will be for the purpose of calling Pastor Bart Young to serve as our Worship Pastor and to change Pastor Ken Kopal’s position from Family Life Pastor to Executive Pastor.
