“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its
fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” ~ Psalm 1:2-3 (NIV) ~
I’m always fascinated when I read about the health benefits of spiritual disciplines, such as meditation. Recently I came across a 2009 study from UCLA’s Laboratory of Neuro Imaging that suggests that meditation literally increases gray matter — that those who meditate show less age-related brain atrophy. Though more research is needed to confirm the study’s conclusions, UCLA professor Eileen Luders says that “meditation appears to be a powerful mental exercise with the potential to change the physical structure of the brain at large.” What does this mean for you and me? If a “secular” method of meditation is beneficial for one’s health, imagine how much more beneficial “spiritual” meditation can be — for one’s physical health and spiritual well-being. So, you might ask, what is spiritual — or Biblical — mediation? It’s not something complicated. It’s really not difficult. In fact, it’s simply focused thinking about a Bible verse or passage in order to discover how I can apply its truth to my life. So, why meditate? First: Because it’s the key to becoming like Christ. Romans 12:2 tells you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and Proverbs 4:23 says that your life is shaped by your thoughts. Second: Because it is the key to answered prayer. Jesus said in John 15:7 that if you live your life in Him and His words live in your heart, you can ask for whatever you like.
Offerings and Connection Cards will be collected in the Offering Boxes located just inside the two main entrances into our Worship Center.

Third: Because it is the key to successful living. God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8: “Meditate (on the Word) day and night, so you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” As we are reading thru the New Testament in our IMMERSE Growth Groups for the next eight weeks, be sure to take some time each day to meditate on one verse or one passage you are reading for the day. Take at least five minutes to practice this wonderful spiritual discipline. continued

Sin to Confess — Promise to Claim — Attitude to Change — Command to Obey? — Example to Follow? — Prayer to Pray? — Error to Avoid? — Truth to Believe? — Something to Thank God for? God has commanded that we meditate on Him, on His Word, on His goodness, on the truth of Scripture. So, take some time as you read thru the New Testament to do nothing but think about God; it’ll do you good — and who knows, you might even increase some of your gray matter! Blessings on your new week as you join us in Worship this Sunday morning and then spend at least five minutes a day meditating on God’s Word.
