“How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.” ~ Psalm 119:103 (NIV) ~ BACKYARD BIBLE-BURNING What’s the worst that can happen when you set fire to a Bible? Here’s a story from the New York Daily News that happened this past Sunday. A massive blaze that engulfed two Texas homes on Sunday began with a woman setting a Bible on fire, according to her neighbors. The San Antonio resident was burning the sacred book in her backyard when the fire suddenly spread into her house and her neighbor’s, witnesses told local news station WOAI-TV. No one was injured in the early-morning blaze, but the fire caused about $150,000 in damages and displaced multiple residents and their dogs, according to the station. Link to article. After the fire had been subdued, the unnamed suspect was cuffed and taken into custody, though no formal charges have been filed. Also, according to the article, “A possible motive for the alleged Bible-burning was not known.” To be honest, I don’t pretend to know what this lady was thinking. Does she hate the Bible? Was it just old and worn out? I don’t know. But I do know that people wanting to destroy or ban God’s Word is nothing new. In Jeremiah 36, God told Jeremiah to write down all of the prophecies He had given against Israel, Judah and other nations. So, Jeremiah dictated the prophecies to Baruch, who wrote them on a scroll. continued
Eventually, King Jehoiakim had the scroll read to him. As three or four columns were read, the king cut them from the scroll and threw them into a fire.

It is sad that a hard heart can sour a person to such an extent that it leads them to try to destroy the Word of God! Are you not delighted that we can respond differently to the Bible? When we take God’s Word into our lives under the instruction of the Holy Spirit — it does not sour us — it is as sweet as honey to our taste. I pray that you are discovering the sweetness of the Bible in your life as we are IMMERSING our hearts and minds in the New Testament. What a blessing the Bible becomes to our daily lives. Don’t miss your reading and don’t miss your Growth Group for these final three weeks. Blessings on your new week as you join us in Worship this Sunday morning. We will be looking at the relationship between prayer and faith — as we encounter A Crash Course on Learning to Ask in Faith. I hope to see you then. Pastor Terrell P.S. Don’t forget — Easter is only 21 days away from this coming Sunday. Who are you inviting to attend with you?
