“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” ~ Hebrews 10:25 (NIV) ~ I am taking a wild guess that by now you realize this coming Sunday is Resurrection (Easter) Sunday. No surprise there, right? However, after having to close our doors to live in-person worship last Easter — I am elated that we can worship together in-person again this Easter. I wanted to share this post which powerfully shares how important in-person worship is to the whole body of Christ — even to our youngest members. “I looked through the church nursery window as I sat in a gliding chair and nursed my 6-month-old. I had hoped that he would make it through the whole church service this week, but he didn’t. And my husband was working this Sunday.

Before I got up to take him out, I whisper-growled to my other boys ‘You behave!’ threatening them as I gave them that mom look so they would know that I was serious.

THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO RECEIVE CURRENT INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.

It clearly didn’t work. As I sat quietly watching from my seat behind the glass, their good behavior turned bad, which turned to worse. I could see that those little shoves between my 4-year-old twins would quickly turn into an in the pew, all over the floor, full on, drag out wrestling match. And there was nothing I could do from inside the little nursery room to stop it.

Cringing, I watched as another lady quietly got up from her seat and moved to the pew behind my 6-year-old and 4-year-old twins.

*Please hold your applause until the end of the Worship Service* Offerings and Connection Cards will be collected in the Offering Boxes located just inside the two main entrances into our Worship Center.

And the Countdown is complete !…

Praying that she would give them a good head thumping, and not judge my lack of mothering skills, I saw her lean up and whisper to them.

And then, stillness, silence. They sat quietly until my baby was finished nursing and I was able to sit back down in between them.

IF YOU NEED HELP OR ASSISTANCE

Taking 4 young kids to church was a challenge. With my husband there to help, it was hard. When he was gone, it felt nearly impossible.

Deacon of the Week:

Most days, I would leave wondering ‘why do I even bother?’ It seemed as though I never ‘got anything’ out of church those days when I spent the entire worship service gathering crayons, passing out goldfish, separating fights, shushing, and stressed that a sippy cup will go flying into the person’s head in front of me. continued

with our activities.

But sometimes church isn’t about what we ‘get out of it.’ It’s about what we put into it. Sometimes church isn’t just for me. It’s for Him. To be with Him. It’s for the body. It’s our food.

And guess what? Our children? Yes, they are a part of that body. Your child, my child, that loud child, that quiet child, they all have a vital role in the health of the body of Christ. How awesome is that? If we are waiting for our kids to grow old enough to be perfectly well-behaved, then we will be waiting too long. I mean, I’m pretty sure that I was still playing MASH at church in High School. Children see, they notice, they remember. They will know if we make the church body a priority. They will watch us and do what we do. Our kids need to know that they are enough. Just as they are. Their off-pitch singing is enough. Their badly-timed ‘Amens’ are enough. Their too loud questions are enough. They need to know that their part in the church is important also. They give hope that 15 years from now the pews won’t be empty. I know that taking young kids to church is hard. Gosh is it hard. It’s hard before even leaving the house. But it’s worth it. It matters. These kids? They were God’s first. Remembering that can help keep things in perspective. And I’ve learned there is no other village that is better at helping me raise my kids than a village who puts God first.”
