“… They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people...” ~ Acts 2:46-47 (NIV) ~ LIFE IS BETTER WHEN WE’RE CONNECTED Centuries ago John Fawcett was the pastor of a poor church in Wainsgate, England. Since he was a talented and dynamic preacher, he received an offer to be the pastor of a large, affluent church in London. It was a great opportunity, but it presented a problem: He dearly loved the congregation in Wainsgate, and it was killing him to leave. After he and his wife had packed away all their belongings, members of the church came to see them off. During their good-byes, Mary Fawcett said to her husband, “John, I cannot bear to leave!”

“Oh How Good is Christ the Lord”

Offerings and Connection Cards will be collected in the Offering Boxes located just inside the two main entrances into our Worship Center, as well as in the Office Hallway.

He thought for a moment and said, “Neither can I. And so we won’t. This is our home and these are our people and this is where we’ll stay.” continued

John Fawcett spent his entire fifty-four-year ministry serving this one church. Shortly after making this decision, he wrote these words...

THIS WEEK AT FIRST SOUTHERN

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

JULY 11 - JULY 17, 2021

Schedule for Sunday, July 11th

That’s the verse everyone knows. Here’s one of the other verses. We share each other’s woes, our mutual burdens bear; And often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.

Bible Study Classes @ 9:00AM Ruth - Rm #202; Saints - Rm #201 In-Person Worship & Online Church @ 10:30AM Preschool Worship opens @ 10:15AM in KID CITY Kidz4Christ dismissed to KID CITY during Worship Service YBA Meeting & Pie Social @ 6:00PM Auditorium & Fellowship Hall

Tuesday, July 13th 10AM - Fellowship Hall - Growth Group #3 - Women’s Bible Study

There’s a reason why old-fashioned things like Sunday School classes and Small Group Bible Studies, are still such a great idea. It’s not just about what we learn from the lesson. It’s also about what we experience in community with others. The key to COMMUNITY is found in the second half of that word: it is UNITY. First Southern will always be as strong as our unity. Unity of heart. Unity of purpose. Unity of spirit. Will there ever be differences in our fellowship? Of course there will. But we covenant together not to let them divide us. We see the need to be connected to one another. We see the need to be in community with one another. We see the need for unity!

It’s so much more than just an advertising slogan: Life Really is Better When We’re Connected. Blessings on your week as you count the ways being connected at First Southern enriches your life and the lives of those with whom you are connected. I look forward to worshiping this Sunday with you, whether In-Person or on Online Church. We will be in Romans 15 as we look further at connection, community and unity, in my sermon: “Let’s Work Together.”
