MUDSOCK 2018 ANNUAL FOOTBALL GAME BETWEEN FHS & HSE ONE OF THE YEAR’S MOST ANTICIPATED EVENTS by Emily Abbotts Director of School and Community Relations, HSE Schools City residents are just a few days away from witnessing the biggest Fishers gridiron rivalry, the annual Mudsock Game, between Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School. With over 10,000 people anticipated for the game, the highlyanticipated showdown brings the entire Fishers community together each year. “No other community event brings as many people together in one place as the Mudsock football game,” said Dr. Allen Bourff, Superintendent of HSE Schools. The Mudsock Game also provides the perfect stage to recognize each Teacher of the Year from each school within the Hamilton Southeastern school district. During halftime of the game teachers from all 21 schools across HSE School will be recognized. The start of school brings an excitement to the Fishers Parks & Recreation office. For the past four years, Chief Naturalist Danesa Stolz gets ready to go back to school each fall. LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO

KEEP FISHERS BEAUTIFUL

Keep Fishers Beautiful’s fall day of service returns this September for the second year as residents, homeowner’s associations, local businesses, and organizations join together support the vibrancy of our city’s roadways and waterways. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various locations throughout the community. An extension of the popular spring initiative, the fall event invites the community to help beautify the city by cleaning up litter along paths and roads and teaming up with the White River Alliance for the annual White River Clean Up. There are many ways the community can help Keep Fishers Beautiful this fall: •

ROADWAY PROJECT Volunteers ages 16 and older can help pick up litter and trash along Fishers’ paths and roadways. Corporate and civic volunteer groups are welcome to participate in this great teambuilding experience.

WHITE RIVER CLEAN UP The 24th annual White River Clean Up brings together volunteers from Fishers and Carmel to beautify the White River and rid its banks of trash, debris, old tires, and more. The White River Alliance will provide canoes for volunteers on a first come, first served basis.

The new NPD AMP is more than just a stage, it’s a community destination. Last summer, the venue welcomed 150,000 Fishers residents for local and national performing acts. So what’s all the hype about? For starters, it’s the stage size, sound, and lighting system, according to former Fishers Parks & Recreation Director Tony Elliot. “The layout of the grounds are specially designed and intended to serve a multitude of uses for decades to come,” said Elliot. The previous amphitheater had barely enough room to fit an entire performing

THE YEAR OF PARKS Fishers Parks & Recreation has named 2018 “The Year of Parks,” a citywide celebration of the community’s vibrant recreation areas and public greenspaces. To celebrate the City’s parks, Think Fishers is exploring one of 24 different Fishers parks each month in 2018.

BILLERICAY PARK From trails to playgrounds and baseball diamonds, Billericay Park is bustling with activity throughout the year. Located at 126th Street and Promise Road tucked just south of Fishers High School, Billericay Park totals 44 acres of diverse recreation area and truly has something for everyone. A popular spot for youth baseball, park visitors can hear the crack of the bat on one of eight lighted, regulation baseball diamonds. Youth baseball, along with other youth sports, is managed through the S.P.O.R.T.S. (Southeastern Program of Recreational Team Sports) organization, a not-for-profit dedicated to providing youth in the Hamilton Southeastern community. The park also features a full concession facility, making a fun evening at the ball park during season and tournament play. Billericay Park is also a popular family destination thanks to the free splash pad that runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park also features three playground areas and 1.75 miles of nature and multi-use trails. The park’s woodland area provides a scenic natural getaway while the perimeter walking trail allows visitors to enjoy ecotherapy in nature. Fishers Parks & Recreation also hosts several activities and events at Billericay Park, including PlayFULL Hours, a popular unstructured playtime for preschoolers and little ones ages 1 to 5, as well as many summer camps during the warmer months. The community building, as well as two park shelters, are available for the public to rent for get-togethers, birthday parties, and more. While visiting, be sure to check out the English phonebooth at the front of the park building that pays homage to Fishers’ sister city, Billericay (pronounced bill-er-ick-ee), England. Billericay Park is open year-round from dawn to dusk. Find more info about S.P.O.R.T.S. on page 16, and learn more about the park at playfishers.com/Billericay.
