WE ARE ICE FISHING. One of the huge advantages ice anglers have: you can go out there with friends and family and spread out while you look for biting fish. Tough to do that in a boat! You can stay within view and talking distance, but independently check different depths, different areas, moving around in search of the spot where fish are huddled for the moment. When somebody starts catching, the circle tightens, quietly so as to keep the fish biting. By noticing who continues to catch while some holes go cold, you can track general movement of the pod of fish. Leap-frog and drill new holes, and the group can stay with the moving targets. If you’re new to ice fishing, this is an awesome way to compare notes, try new baits and presentations, give each other a hard time, and all learn as you go. It’s fun to fish together, and it makes your team more effective than a solo angler trying to figure it out alone.

We get the question all the time: why don’t you put “temperature ratings” on the suits? Because one person’s 20 below is another person’s 20 above. We will say this, though: we tend to label them ‘Blue Suit’ days or ‘Grey Suit’ days. The dividing line is 0 degrees F. wind chill.

When the wind-chill factor is above zero, most of us wear Blue (EDGE ™) suits. When it dips below zero it’s a Grey (EXTREME™) suit day. Again, it’s a rough rule of thumb.
