Back to nature at Hertford Barns Day Nursery

From practicing yoga and mindfulness beneath the trees to building on key areas of development with exciting outdoor activities, Hertford Barns Day Nursery provides the perfect backdrop for children to thrive in countryside surroundings. Armed with magnifying glasses, curious preschoolers at the award-winning setting on Cole Green study the guests in their garden bug hotels, create habitats for wildlife using natural materials and monitor the growth of their plants, herbs and vegetables whilst learning simple maths and science messages and the importance of good nutrition and exercise to healthy lifestyles. It is for these practices that Hertford Barns have gained the prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award as part of the international Eco-Schools scheme, the highest accolade in the inspiring programme which is given for exceptional environmental conservation and awareness efforts. Inside, the bright and spacious classrooms are filled with purpose-built facilities including a children’s shaker style kitchen for cooking and baking activities, art tables to inspire creativity and cosy corners for reading beloved storybooks, as well as state-of-the-art toys, ICT and equipment, messy play stations and stimulating ‘role play areas’, which allow each child from six weeks to nearly five years to immerse themselves in the vast learning opportunities on offer.
