The British Beach Championships, also known as Sandpolo, is the world’s leading beach polo tournament, featuring the top sporting players and their impressive ponies. The event on the beach is now the annual highlight in the Dorset calendar, and it is now gearing up for another year of dynamic fastpaced stadium polo, feasting, and extravagant parties.

The weekend event will take place on 7- 8 July on the blue flag beach of Sandbanks. Year on year the luxury event welcomes up to 8,000 spectators who flock to the beach to enjoy the polo, food, parties and outstanding scenery of the Jurassic Coast.

The Sandpolo weekend is the largest beach polo event in the world and is played in an enclosed arena with spectators up close and personal, and has often been referred to as ‘Ice Hockey on Horse Back.’ The polo ponies love the sand – they can accelerate, turn on a sixpence and stop in a heartbeat. The thrill and excitement of horses galloping on the sand, the English Channel as a backdrop, sipping champagne amongst glamorous company – it’s an intoxicating mix.

This year the event will showcase a new equestrian extravaganza with a spellbinding, high-octane stunt show - a combination of stunning horses, stunt riders, and plenty of mesmerising tricks. ‘Trick Riding’, the art of performing stunts and gymnastic manoeuvres on the back of a galloping horse, is one of the most adrenaline fuelled horseback activities. Friday is ‘Boogie on the Beach’ featuring soul diva Mica Paris, along with acclaimed soul, motown and disco artists, whilst Saturday’s closing party sees Spandau Ballet and TV personality Martin Kemp take to the decks for a DJ set on what promises to be a genre-defying and decade-hopping night of entertainment.
