THE CHAMPIONSHIPS, WIMBLEDON 2023
FROM 3 -16 JULY 2023
Experience two weeks of first-class tennis, strawberries and cream and good-natured queuing at one of the most famous events in the sporting calendar. Wimbledon is the oldest and one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. It is one of the four Grand Slam events, along with the Australian Open, the French Open, and the US Open.
Novak Djokovic is the defending champion and has won Wimbledon six times and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Iga Swiatek is the rising star of women’s tennis and won the French Open in 2020. She has had a solid start to her 2023 season, reaching the quarter-finals of Adelaide and Melbourne. She is young and hungry for more success.
Taking place at the magnificent All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon since 1877, it is a quintessentially British experience. The Tournament attracts around 500,000 spectators, including members of The Royal Family and celebrities, plus more than a billion viewers across 200 nations.
All England Lawn Tennis Club continues to invest in the improvement of the facilities at the Qualifying Competition. This year, a new 700-seat Show Court has been constructed in a more central location at the venue, which has also seen the creation of relocated practice courts, and an increase in overall daily spectator capacity to 3,000. Tickets for the Qualifying Competition are on sale now at £15 each.
Ticketholders will be able to enjoy the enhancements made in the Southern Village, the section of the Grounds running between No.2 Court and the Rosewater Pavilion. This space will have a big screen set up showing live tennis with deck chairs and weather shade, in addition to an improved food and drink offering alongside their traditional Official Partner activation spaces. A new entry gate will be opened in this space to ease the flow of spectators into the Grounds.
Wednesday 5 July will coincide with the 75th birthday of the NHS and AELTC will be marking this special day at Wimbledon. This will include inviting 75 NHS employees from local hospital, St George’s, to attend and celebrate the day with them. A number of NHS representatives will be hosted by the Chairman in the Royal Box. The Championships 2023 will be played over 14 days and, as always, the tournament schedule remains provisional and subject to change at the discretion of the Referee. A full Order of Play will be available the night before the next day’s play and matches may be delayed due to circumstances beyond the AELTC’s control, e.g. weather, player injury etc. The latest schedule can be found at wimbledon.com
Ticket Information
Wimbledon remains one of the very few major sporting events where you can buy premium tickets on the day of play. For many, The Queue at The Championships is as much a part of the Wimbledon experience as the tennis itself. On-day sales will once again be available via The Queue, including up to 500 premium seats for each of the show courts. Guests on-site will also be able to make use of the ticket resale scheme. Ticket integrity will continue to be of the utmost importance, with strictly one pair of tickets available per household.
Only tickets purchased directly from the AELTC or from one of its authorised agents will be valid and permit entry to The Championships.
FOOD & DRINK
Whether you’re looking for a quick snack between matches, or a leisurely lunch and something more substantial, there are plenty of options on offer at The Championships. They have designed a range of options that reflect the history and rich heritage of the event and its unrivalled reputation. The Championships are as synonymous with strawberries and picnicking on the Hill as they are with the world-class tennis on display.
On the search for Champagne? Fish & Chips? A cup of tea? Or perhaps a sandwich before heading back to court? With a number of Larders, Food Market offerings and Bars throughout the Grounds you won’t have to miss a rally.
For those wishing to enjoy a sit-down restaurant experience, there are several options throughout the Grounds: there are alternative dietary choices with multiple vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. This includes the iconic Wimbledon Strawberries and Cream, available with a plant-based cream...so no one misses out!
