Cyprus economy improves March has been an eventful month for all of us in Cyprus. The European Commission, the IMF and the European Bank (collectively known as the Troika) have been vigorously assessing progress in Cyprus to see whether the ‘roadmap’ to overcome our difficulties is on track and consequently, will merit a further injection from the €10billion bailout. As reported in previous correspondence the list of ‘requirements’ is long and detailed requiring the government to lead with determined commitment, pragmatism, and a great deal of diplomacy. According to the IMF press release “The programme is intended to stabilise the country’s financial system, achieve fiscal sustainability, and support the recovery of economic activity to preserve the welfare of the population”. (Cyprus Mail, 27March) Surprisingly, in this hour of need, the government and the people are behind the ‘programme’ and Cyprus has achieved major milestones in the reform effort. The government has strengthened the financial sector supervisory and regulatory framework, has achieved the reduction of the government deficit to 5.4% of GDP (from 6.4% in 2012) and has approved a mechanism for privatisation of semi­ government organisations (SGOs). The government has also been rewarded with the Troika’s satisfactory assessment and the upgrading of the Cyprus Banks rating by Moody’s and others to positive CAA3. All of which, according to the Troika, is good news for Cyprus. The €10 billion injection to the economy will see continuation of the reform agenda. The Cyprus Government announcement that all limits on bank cash withdrawal have been lifted across the board, even made to the news desk of Euronews and is welcomed by citizens and investors alike! Popular sentiment seems to be against the big developers who are generally seen to be the major architects of the present national and banking calamities. "The Office" Fitzgerald's office is down the road from Kings Avenue Mall and within close walking distance to the Paphos Harbour. The office is virtually opposite the “Wishing Tree”. Coming from the Tomb of the kings turn right at Kings Avenue Mall traffic lights and we are a short way down on the right just after the “Wishing Tree”.

Office hours are 9am to 5.30pm 6 days a week with no break for lunch. So if you are working and only have your lunch break to come and see us, you are welcome!


A Coffee Morning in Aid of CARITAS On Saturday the12th of April we are holding a Coffee morning in aid of CARITAS at our Fitzgerald Marketing offices in Kato Paphos from 10am to 12:30pm.

Come along for a coffee and a cake and help us support this worthwhile charity which does so much in our local community. Archangel Michael Hospice Archangel Michael Hospice, based in Paphos, is now entering the final completion phase and is preparing to become fully operational. The medical team will provide palliative care services to people with life limiting illnesses such as cancer; HIV; end stage liver, kidney and heart disease amongst other and as such will be the only hospice on the island doing so. The Hospice which will open in 2014 has 2 Children’s Bedrooms (the first in Cyprus) and rooms for 8 Adults which provide ample space for family to stay overnight with their loved ones. We will care for 50 children and 200 adults with life limiting illnesses per annum! This care will be provided free of charge to all, regardless of religious belief, the nature of the illness or nationality. The cost of providing care is €500,000 per annum. Archangel Michael Hospice is a major project for Cyprus and the project has wide community support and community fund raising activities provide much needed funds. The Big Breakfast at the prestigious 5th Floor Restaurant is one of the major events that attract Who’s Who of the local business and community leaders, and local and foreign government officials. This April we’ll have the pleasure to welcoming our special guest the H.E. Ambassador of Ireland in Cyprus Nicholas Twist and his wife Patricia Molloy, who will travel from Nicosia to support the event. Fitzgerald’s have been the founding members of the hospice support group since its inception over 10 years ago. The nearing completion is indeed a joyful event to us all in the community; however the support work is not ending. The success of the ‘operational stage’ is vital if the long awaited dream to provide help to the sick and those in need is to be fully realized.
