FITZGERALD'S NEW IMAGE continued As our Newsletter/Digest stated last month, Fitzgerald’s has ambitious plans for upgrading the office facilities this year and, whilst the premises are now freshly painted, our new furniture and special displays are just waiting in the wings to make their appearance. Equally, just as we say how important it is when selling your house to present it in the way that will attract buyers, we believe implicitly that the atmosphere in our offices is paramount, not only to attract new clients and make existing ones comfortable, but also to ensure all our staff feel empowered by their work environment. With Cyprus experiencing long hot summers in the last few years, Fitzgerald's will be using ecofriendly measures to cool their highprofile office on Apostolos Pavlos Avenue. Experienced technicians are about to apply hitech 3M sunfilm to our windows to block out 76% of the heat from the powerful sun. Our customers and staff are sure to be as cool as cucumbers in hot days ahead! As many clients know, as well as Daryl and Anna who head up the Fitzgerald group, there are two excellent Russianspeaking assistants. The company is rewarding their dedication and hard work with the opportunity to use a new company car – a Honda Jazz which joins the small liveried fleet of Honda HRV and Civic. The new Fitzgerald Property Catalogue is out now and proving to be very successful; you can find it on our website www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com. The company is proud of their track record which, alongside the Fitzgerald credo of quality property at realistic prices with Title Deeds, has resulted in an overwhelming response, even in this time of continued worries offshore about the financial situation. With title deeds secure, there seem to be very few people who do not share the Fitzgerald optimism about investing in Cyprus property. The ‘doom and gloom’ media hacks are still talking down the market and we all hope that present troubles will steer the country on the right path without the loopholes that some developers are so adept in exploiting, exposing buyers to risk. The Central Bank of Cyprus announced that all foreign currency restrictions will cease on 1st September 2013 but even with restrictions in place, Mandziak Fitzgerald, with the help of an expert panel of lawyers, have concluded property transactions and money transfers without any hassle at all. Our best wishes to everyone for the summer season and we look forward to seeing you soon!

PISC regatta – a resounding success The Paphos International Sailing Club (PISC) held an immensely popular summer regatta for local dinghy sailors for the second year running at Agios Georgios – some miles north of Paphos between Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd June 2013. Ftizgerald’s was proud to be one of the three major sponsors, all of whom were commended by PISC Commodore Chas Kimber: ‘At a time when the Cyprus financial situation might be seen to be “flukey” – a sailing term for variable, uncertain winds – it is heartening to have local businesses giving us their support.’ Daryl Fitzgerald revealed in the same interview with The Cyprus Weekly national newspaper: ‘We are new to sports sponsorship, but we expect that this will be a successful venture. Fitzgerald’s license is held by a company bearing my wife, Anna’s, name A. Mandziak Estate Agency Ltd (number 637) – so we have committed to sponsoring the Ladies Race, which is appropriate.’ As with any outdoor watersport, even on the Mediterranean sea, weather plays a great part. Saturday racing was delayed and one race cancelled due to … FOG! Yes, the small offshore island which had been chosen as one of the markers for the first race was entirely blanked out by a thick bank of seafog, which cleared slowly over the morning. Day 2 dawned rather finer for the Fitzgerald’s Ladies Race which saw Sharon Kimber and Claire Lambert battling it out in small singlehanded boats with negligible wind for the title. As well as the beautifully crafted glass and pebble trophies provided by PISC, winner Sharon and Claire in second place, were delighted to receive a surprise cheque from Daryl. He commented after the presentation ceremony: 'It was marvellous to so many happy faces at the PISC regatta presentation at St George's! Congratulations to the

winners, all competitors, the Commodore, all his helpers on a great day for the club.' For information: the Paphos International Sailing Cub (PISC) was founded over 13 years ago. It has its own clubhouse in Geroskipou – sadly not actually on the water and a membership of over 150 sailing enthusiasts from oceangoing craft located in various exotic ports around the world through to the everpopular Kestrel and Wayfarer dinghies. There is even one beautifullyrestored formerOlympic class Flying Dutchman in the dinghy fleet. As well as members with their own boats, the club owns some small sailing dinghies and holds weekly onthe water events for members and sailing students at Agios Georgios on the west coast.

Great to see so many people at the St. George’s Football Club Go Gecko Fun Day. It was amazing to see the pitch transformed into something akin to an English Country Fair.

Tala Amphitheatre is the host to a great series of musical events this summer, the most recent event being a Rod Stewart Tribute concert. The amphitheatre was packed for a night of great entertainment and it wasn’t long before people were up dancing to the music.

Elena off to Kazan After a busy year at Fitzgerald’s Elena and children Konstantina and Georgios left for a well earned holiday in native Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia. The republic is located in the center of the East European Plain, approximately 800 kilometers (500 mi) east of Moscow and lies between the Volga River and the Kama River (a tributary of the Volga), and extends east to the Ural mountains. In the 2010 Census the population of Tatarstan was 3,786,488. Total land area is 68,000km2. Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of the Russian Federation. The region's main source of wealth is oil. County’s prosperity permeates the social and commercial activities against the background of vibrant cultural diversity. Kazan is cradled between two major rivers with the city resembling more a modern Garden of Eden rather than modern built metropolis. Elena and children are busy visiting relatives and friends, introducing children to the new city and catching up with the latest on the social calendar. Mandatory social outing are national opera, classical and modern ballet, drama and comedy and children’s theatre to name a few.

27th World University Summer Games in Kazan (July 2013) The 27th World University Summer Games in Kazan will be the first Universiade, and more importantly, the first highprofile multisport event in the history of modern Russia (post Gladsnost) . The Universiade is an International multisport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sport Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words "University" and "Olympiad”. The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games.

History of university sports officially started in 1905 when the first international university games were held in the USA. In 1919 Jean Petitjean initiated the Confederation of Students, under the aegis of which the first World Student Games took place in Paris in May 1923. The following year saw the birth of the International Confederation of Students (ICS). Until 1939 eight more sporting events were organised by the students and the ICS. All the sporting events were mostly held in Europe.

Kazan Kazan is third largest capital city of Russia, it’s one of the largest economic, scientific and cultural centres in the country. The city celebrated its 1,000th anniversary in 2005. About 1,2 mln people – representatives of over 100 nationalities – live in Kazan in the atmosphere of cultural, religious and linguistic diversity. The Kazan ‘Kremlin’, a unique complex of archeological, historical and architectural monuments enrolled into the UNESCO World Heritage list, is the main tourist attraction of Kazan. It is open for visits and tours on a daily basis. Tourists visiting the territory of the architectural conservation area will see such places of interest as the ‘falling’ Syuyumbike Tower, Savior Tower, Annunciation

Cathedral and KulSharif, one of the largest mosques in the world. There are all the reasons to call the thousandyearold Kazan a ‘young’ city, as it’s the largest student city of Russia. There are nearly 200,000 students from 67 countries studying in Kazan. Russia’s top higher education institutions are all concentrated here, among them Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Tupolev Kazan National Research Technical University and Kazan
