Starting the Long Hot Summer in Paphos Last week saw our temperature climbing to 42 degrees and everyone, tourists and locals alike, inevitably were heading for the beach. The latest statistics show that in May tourist arrivals totaled 293,181 compared with 276,244 in the corresponding period of 2013, an increase of 6.1%. Importantly, from the property market perspective, May saw an increase of 2.4 per cent in arrivals from the UK and a 15.2 per cent increase from Russia. The statistics are important as both national segments account for a major slice of Cyprus properties sold to foreigners. Certainly at Fitzgerald’s these two groups represent almost 90% of property inquiries and in May we have had a total of 149 accompanied viewings. Interestingly, the Russians accounted for 21% of viewings and the British, 68%. With less than 100 properties on our books, this is a tremendous achievement, for us as real estate company and, particularly so for the owners who have entrusted us with their property. We continue to specialize in marketing Quality Property, Properties at Realistic Market Prices with Title Deeds, the qualities that drive the property market interest. Our listings are increasing to meet buyer demands. 'Each and every property that we list has a serious WOW factors, as well as a realistic price' says Daryl, 'otherwise noone will even look at it in this market where the market is swamped with properties to sell yet only 2060 sales are made each month to people from overseas.' With advertisements on the UK property website, RIGHTMOVE and a similar Russian website, many other ads, the new property catalogue, multilingual staff along with our ever popular website www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com,

Fitzgerald's are attracting everyone who wants to buy property in the Paphos and Pissouri Districts. Presentation is the key as Fitzgerald's have trained staff and beautiful lifestyle photographs with stories about each property. Social media networks, such as Facebook, are also active in reaching out to everyone with new and innovative ideas and reports. The temperature at Fitzgerald is rising as we go into the final phase of testing the new website, learn new skills, experience new applications and continue with daily updates to keep all our clients informed what new properties are coming on to the market.

"The Office" Fitzgerald's office is down the road from Kings Avenue Mall and within close walking distance to the Paphos Harbour. The office is virtually opposite the “Wishing Tree”. Coming from the Tomb of the kings turn right at Kings Avenue Mall traffic lights and we are a short way down on the right just after the “Wishing Tree”.

Office hours are 9am to 5.30pm 6 days a week with no break for lunch. So if you are working and only have your lunch break to come and see us, you are welcome!

ASCOT RACES Ascot the World Famous Racecourse is in the small town of Ascot in Berkshire. It is closely linked to the British Royal Family with Windsor being only 6 miles away. The most Famous race of Royal Ascot is the Gold Cup. This is open to horses over the age of 4 and is run on Day three (Know as “ Ladies Day”). The event was first established in 1807 and the inaugural winner was Master Jackey and was run in the presence of King George III and Queen Charlotte. In 1844 the race was attended by Nicholas I of Russia while making his state visit to England and the winner given the Emperors Plate awarded by Nicholas I Himself. This Year’s winner was a horse called Leading Light Ridden by Joseph O’Brien and trained by Adian O’Brien . The Queens Horse Estimate won in 2013 .The First Ruling Monarch to Win the Cup in 207 years, but this year Estimate only managed second. This year we were lucky enough to have our own Andrea Fitzgerald attending Ascot on Ladies Day

Shakespeare at Curium presents Julius Caesar June 27, 28 and 29 at the Ancient Curium Amphitheatre. High on the cliffs, the Mediterranean washing the horizon, lies the ancient amphitheatre of Curium. Built in the second century BC, it’s a setting so unique that it’s still, to this day, used to host numerous events throughout the year. Chief of which– lovers of the Bard, prepare – is the muchawaited annual production from Shakespeare at Curium. Produced under the auspices of the Performing Arts for Cyprus Charities, this yearly performance brings together some of the island’s best amateur (and ex professional) thespians in a philanthropic endeavour designed to both delight audiences and raise money for a number of local charities. A worthy undertaking, the muchloved event is now in its 53rd year and has become an unmissable feature of the cultural calendar. And this year promises to be particularly fascinating, for this is a play that has never been previously presented at Curium. Julius Caesar Written in 1599 and is quite simply, a play about a great Roman failing. Marcus Brutus, the leading conspirator in the assassination of Julius Caesar, fails not because of a lack of intelligence or authority, but because he holds on to his sincerity and principles in a world that rewards manipulation and dishonesty. Yet there are no heroes or villains in this story. This is not a play about petty scraps, self

indulged romance or bawdy jests余 it is a meaningful play about fate and power in the world. It is about Rome, one of the great civilisations in history and thus an inspiring template to which all other realms can be compared. Julius Caesar explores the intentions of the political class, the role the people play in their own destiny and, above all else, the dangers of civil strife. Today we still look to William Shakespeare for an understanding of life, such was his genius. If we look at the world, we would find both distrust and adulation of politicians, underrepresentation in flawed democracies and division in all walks of life. Local Charities have now benefited by over 1 million Euros and this year the profit will be spilt between four charities They have a website http://www.shakespeareatcurium.com/ and are on facebook

Private British School ASPIRE Since opening its doors in 2011, Private British School ASPIRE has gone from strength to strength after witnessing a constant growth in reputation and number of students. The Paphosbased school’s success is simply down to its quality education. This is delivered by experienced teachers who recognise the importance of an inspirational learning environment. ASPIRE, which caters for children from the age of three, follows the UK National Curriculum and guides students through GCSE, IGCSE and A level qualifications. These qualifications are accepted throughout the world and are equivalent to those awarded in the UK. After continued growth, ASPIRE is now preparing to move into a new stateofthe art building on Paphos’ popular Tombs of the Kings Avenue. Situated just 1.5km from the centre of Paphos and with stunning sea views, the 2700 square metre building will allow the school to introduce new subjects and activities to its alreadybustling programme. ASPIRE currently boasts a complete WiFi network, the next generation of interactive whiteboard technology, an ICT suite, an allweather sports pitch, a library, and a fullyequipped science laboratory. These will be joined by an art, design and technology suite, a dance studio, and a 300 metre covered recreation area when the new site officially opens in September 2014. Despite the expansion, ASPIRE’s original principles remain the same.

The school adopts a small class size policy which helps to effectively monitor the development of each individual child and ensure their educational needs are catered for. Sharon Hadjiyiakoumi, Principal of ASPIRE, said: “At ASPIRE, we are fully aware that each child has his or her own individual style of learning. “Our staff therefore employ various teaching techniques to promote enthusiasm and understanding in all subjects. “Alongside the rigorous British National Curriculum, ASPIRE also offers an extensive extracurricular programme to ensure all students can explore their talents and interests.” The school’s afternoon programme, which changes on a halftermly basis, has included cookery, debating, business enterprise, drama and sports. ASPIRE also organises regular walks and residential trips, both in Cyprus and overseas, and is licensed to operate the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The programme, open to students aged 14 and over, involves the completion of rural expeditions and projects that offer a service to the local community. ASPIRE, currently situated behind Philipos Supermarket in Coral Bay, is now accepting applications for September 2014.

Visit www.aspirecoe.com for more information. The school can also be contacted by calling 00357 26623606 or emailinginfo@aspirecoe.com.
