FITZGERALD'S NEW IMAGE Fitzgerald Marketing is delighted to tell you that is has earned the prestigious Estate Agency Licence for one of its companies, A. Mandziak Estate Agency Ltd, number 637. The group is embarking on a significant upgrading and new furniture and displays have been ordered for the office at Apostolos Pavlos Avenue. The company is looking forward to expanding and marketing the best properties that Paphos has to offer. For an update, do visit http://www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com/ask_contact . Equally, our Facebook and LinkedIn presence is expanding and we’re enjoying the development of our new website. The Fitzgerald’s website is generating tremendous activity even in the present ‘difficult’ times. Consistently delivering quality properties with title deeds, at realistic market prices, has been instrumental in the continual growth of our online customer base and customer loyalty. The new website has many new features and functions to enhance the search experience as well as social connectivity. The new and improved website will give us an opportunity to expand beyond the Paphos area, so if you are an owner and have a property to sell, contact us. Be sure that everyone’s favourites the Digest and Newsletters – will remain. People frequently mention that they look forward to hearing the real facts about what is happening in Paphos and the property market. We also try to give a balanced view of what is new, exciting and entertaining in our area. Whilst it is not pleasant to hear about the ‘bailout’, ’bailin’ or bank restrictions, at Fitzgerald’s we are convinced Cyprus is still the place to be. These difficulties will pass and people will continue to come here because it is a brilliant place to live. The sun, the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea, friendly people, delicious food, relaxing atmosphere, safety and security, is what Cyprus is all about. The recent financial difficulties have had an impact on home prices which makes it even more appealing to invest in Cyprus now. The funds are secure whether buying or selling, precisely why we are seeing a heightened interest in Cyprus properties. On the ‘home front’, our office assistants, Bella, Elena and Lisa, are doing an excellent job with Fitzgerald's and Lisa's story will appear in the online Paphos Digest as well as in our new Property Catalogue coming out during June.

We know that our clients are looking for quality property at realistic prices with those precious, often hard to obtain, Title Deeds. That’s why clients come to this agency, both to buy and sell. It’s the Fitzgerald credo: quality, value for money, daily vigilance on the financial front; fulltime multilingual staff and comprehensive, truthful marketing support. Similarly, for clients looking for something really special, Please have connect to: http://www.fitzgeraldprestige.com/properties/1542arcadia/ http://www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com/properties/1501 Finally, another good omen for Paphos, Paphos was proclaimed the 2017 Cultural Capital of Europe during a ceremony at the Council of the European Union, in Brussels last month. Present during the ceremony were Cyprus Education Minister Kyriacos Kenevezos and Paphos Mayor Savvas Vergas. Kenevezos hailed the day as ‘historic’, since it is the first time a city in Cyprus will represent Europe’s Cultural Capital. Savvas Vergas – longtime mayor of the city confirmed that Paphos can build a new cultural face for itself, based on the “Open air Factory” concept; the major aim is to build bridges of understanding between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, as well as cultural cooperation between Europe and the Middle East. Fitzgerald’s is convinced all this bodes very well for the property market in Paphos!

Lisa Sophocleous My parents spent many very happy holidays in Pissouri during my teens and would return with stories of long, warm, sunny days on the beach at Pissouri and balmy evenings spent in one of the Village tavernas chatting to new friends over a tasty local dish, washed down with a bottle of fresh, crisp local wine. This was a welcome break for them during their very busy working lives, juggling 3 Restaurants in Ashford, Kent and 3 teenage girls! They bought a piece of land from one Taverna owner and therein started their Pissouri story. In the Spring of 1990 I decided to take a break from work and soak up some Cyprus sun and Pissouri culture. I was bitten by the "Cyprus Bug" – during my short stay I was offered a Reception/Bar and bookkeeping position with a local hotel, I returned to the UK, with some sadness, proffered by resignation to my Boss and

made my move – fate had started to take hold. My parents purchased the very same hotel shortly after and made Cyprus their place of home and work. I continued to work for them, enjoying the weather, clean living, fresh food and social life. On my 21st birthday I met my husband to be, George, his family had recently completed the construction of the Hill View Restaurant& Hotel Apartments on the top of the hill in Pissouri and he was a busy, young Entrepreneur& Chef with the same work ethic and family values as me. We were married in 1995 and have worked together, along with his family, to build the Hill View into the successful business it is today. We have three bilingual children, Thekla (15), Joseph (12) and our newest addition and little surprise, Lily May born in May 2012. Family life took over and I pulled back from working at the Restaurant. I was very surprised and pleased when my Husband’s Aunt Elena Sofokleous ,rang to say that a position had arisen for a Representative of Fitzgeralds in Pissouri, Aphrodite Hils and the surrounding villages and she wondered if I might be interested in attending an interview. I had nothing to lose by going to meet with Daryl Fitzgerald and looked forward to the possibility of something new. With Mr Fitzgerald’s backing and my tenacity for doing things to the best of my ability, I commenced my new position. What could be better? Matching Purchasers with their ideal home in a place that I love. Every client I have had the pleasure of showing around the area have been a delight to meet and every sale a real achievement. The Fitzgerald ethos fits very well with me – a hardworking, family orientated, multinational conscientious team with a simple goal – easing Purchasers into their new home and lifestyle in Cyprus as smoothly and as quickly as possible. Whether it’s a Holiday apartment or a luxury full time home every sale is subjected to the same high qualityservice and attention to detail.

New artworks from Joep Catch an exciting exhibition of brand new paintings by Joep Klinkenbijl this month, opening on Saturday 1 June 2013, from 7.30pm at ‘The Gallery of Faros Restaurant’, Latchi. Faros – in Greek, the Lighthouse is situated on the harbourside at the picturesque little north coast port, a beautiful venue worthy of a visit; the exhibition is open 7 days a week from 11am till late until Sunday 14th July. Joep, born in 1951 in Holland, has been living in Cyprus for some time. Entirely selftaught, he explains: ‘I have an unfailing desire to create paintings in a unique style which is instantly recognizable as the artist’s – my signature.’ The works are mainly abstract; oils and acrylic resin on a linen/canvas base, creating dynamic and intense colours. Mirrorscapes over water comprise many of the works in the exhibition, but Joep has been developing a more organic style for some of his most recent works. Joep’s career has also flourished in the music and film environment both in the Netherlands and abroad. Here in Cyprus he is a DJ with his own radio programme on Rock FM: “The Double Dutch Show”. He has a hugely enquiring mind, endlessly discovering inspirational new avenues in culture, history and theatre as well as continually looking for the next challenge. This month he launches his latest venture – a website ‘Get The Kick’ which lists music events across the island. Paphos International Sailing Club PISC Summer Regatta 2013 PISC summer sailing regatta will be held at Agios Georgios from Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd June 2013; all Cyprus sailing clubs have been invited to attend, Commodore Chas Kimber announced recently. The regatta should also attract a number of spectators to the picturesque little fishing harbour and everyone will be made welcome. The regatta is open to all dinghy sailors and competitors are asked register by email by Friday 14th June 2013 if possible. Forms are available online (www.pisc.org.cy) and should be returned to RearCommodoreSailing@PISC.org.cy who will also field all enquiries (96827613). There will be a practice race briefing at 13.15 on Friday 21st June, followed by four races on the Saturday and a further four on the Sunday, weather and sea conditions permitting. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in classes for Kestrel, Wayfarer, General Handicap, Ladies Race and Single person in double handed boat. The regatta also includes the prestigious Fraser Mackinlay Cup which was instituted two years ago for the Geroskipou Summer Regatta 2011. For keen sailors looking to settle on the western coast of Cyprus, Paphos International Sailing Club is the place to meet likeminded enthusiasts. Whilst the clubhouse is not in an ideal position, being some distance from the sea in Geroskipou, the dinghy sailors have what they call ‘the alternative clubhouse’, at Agios Georgios, north of Paphos on the edge of the Akamas peninsula, where some 30 club members enjoy a privileged boat parking spot just off the beach. The dinghy sailors meet on Thursdays and Saturdays

during the season, while the clubhouse is open on Friday lunchtimes, offering reasonably priced beverages and tasty ‘pub grub’. Chas Kimber is also delighted that PISC has been asked to supply a team to assist with the Youth Worlds 2013 in Limassol in July 1320th . He confirmed: ‘We’re sending our safety boat, plus a fully qualified rescue team to crew it, for the whole week; we will be the lead boat in the Youth Boys Laser dinghy racing and also the Youth Girls Laser dinghy racing. Over 80 nations will be attending, so this is quite an honour for the club.’ For visitors and locals alike, there’s always something to enjoy on the Cyprus sea shore!
