We continue to advertise our world class website on the famous British property website ‘Rightmove’, the Cyprus Mail, Essential Paphos magazine and the Russian magazine ‘My Island’ (Moi Ostrov) attracting sellers as well as buyers.

We are seeing consolidation of prices at current realistic levels. As more people wake up to the fact that this is a wonderful opportunity to buy villas, prices will increase however prices for apartments will continue to be soft because there is a big oversupply of these types of properties.

Market Stabilizes

Cyprus is basking in the prestige of holding the rotating EU Presidency till December 31, 2012 and according to the press, the Government is performing splendidly continuing with the programs initiated by previous EU leadership as well as adding its own leadership agenda. There is a lot of focus is on the EU Presidency, yet with the Cyprus Presidential elections scheduled to take place in February 2013, the majority of the population are preoccupied with the forthcoming elections and domestic affairs.

To this end, Cyprus government spokesman Daryl Fitzgerald echoed the "tight" budget policy which incorporates additional spending cuts and further shrinkage of the bloated public sector whilst at the same time channeling funds for growthboosting infrastructure projects. All this has a good effect on the Cyprus property market and real prices are stabilizing at record low levels which cannot continue.

The ‘canny’ property buyer can see this but there are lots of people who believe the media’s ‘bad news’ propaganda and are wrongly delaying their buying decision. They may miss the boat for their favourite property.

Recent sales at Fitzgerald’s reflect good sales for quality properties at realistic prices with Title Deeds – see www.fitzgeraldcyprus.com

More good news for you and Fitzgerald’s as the Real Estate Board of Cyprus has finally, after 10 years, given their approval for the company to be registered estate agents. More news next month

Megalo Tama The artwork, The Megalo Tama has been made for the event INSITE in Kato Paphos to commemorate Cyprus’ presidency of the EU 2012. The event will take place from the 21st 28th September 2012. The event INSITE is sponsored by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and The Department of Antiquities.

In Miriam Mc Connon’s installation artwork, The Megalo Tama, a huge handkerchief encompasses the entire tree at the site of Saint Solomoni in Kato Paphos. Tama is the Greek word for a votive offering (handkerchief) that people hang on this ancient tree to offer a wish or prayer for loved ones who are sick or who have passed away.

Although the artwork bears a resemblance to Christo and JeanClaude’s wrapped trees in Riehen, Switzerland in 1998, Miriam Mc Connon’s Megalo Tama is less concerned with the concept of the wrapping of the tree but more with the material that is wrapped in. The huge handkerchief is draped over the tree loosely allowing it to take the form of the tree and also keep its own form and identity as a handkerchief, holding onto the domestic element that is so strong in her recent work.

The piece of cloth (400 metres sq.) that covers the tree is made up of handkerchiefs and lace that have been collected over the last two years from the people of Paphos and abroad and have been sewn together carefully by the artist herself. Each handkerchief has been a personal possession of somebody and therefore carries its own individual story. Some carry personal inscriptions to loved ones. Because of this the material has an identity, and a life of its own, its own fragrance. It appears to speak personally to each of us. Miriam Mc Connon’s recent work is concerned with the stories behind simple domestic objects and the power they have over our sense of identity.

What's On With Jezebel

Now that temperatures are cooling a little and pubgoers are once again prepared to sit INSIDE a venue, live music bars become more satisfactory for both performers and audience as the latter head inside, where the musicians and singers have been kept in due to sound regulations all summer long.
